Gift Shop
Evergreen Gift Shop was opened in May of 1978 as a small craft item store. During the
following year the craft items were replaced by a small line of Southwest Style jewelry.
This was during the period when turquoise jewelry and sterling silver had reached a peak
of popularity. As the peak for this style of jewelry diminished we replaced it with the
latest styles of gold and precious stone jewelry. As the need presented we then started
designing and manufacturing custom pieces of jewelry to meet the clients desires. To be
able to accomplish this, we had to learn the art of lost wax casting, jewelry finishing,
stone setting, as well as jewelry repair. This entails a variety of skills including those
associated with working with the public. |
|
| The business has since developed into a ready to wear gold and silver
jewelry market with few requests for custom designed pieces of jewelry. With a high ratio
of returning individuals, we always look forward to seeing them return for special
occasion buying, such as birthday, anniversary, Christmas etc.. Southwest Art
During the late 1980s a trend developed in home interior decorating requiring a line of
southwest art to be acquired, so we began purchasing by special request, the items they
were seeking. We eventually established connections with a number of manufacturing
facilities in the Southwest for the type merchandise that was being used for this style of
interior decorating. During our winter buying trips we made numerous contacts throughout
the Southwest United States buying not only art but also the latest styles of sterling
silver jewelry.
Trade Shows
One of the largest trade shows to be found anywhere is in Tucson, Arizona during the
first two weeks of February. At this show there are approximately 5000 dealers displaying
merchandise to meet the needs of every type of jewelry and art store. Consequently, during
every January and February since 1980 we have wintered primarily in Tucson, using
this as our base for purchasing inventory for the remainder of the year. It is at
these shows that we see the latest in design for the coming year. We also make many new
contacts for purchasing supplies that are necessary to operate a jewelry store.
