11. Groupwork Skills

This course is designed for workers in any type of service setting who will be running group programmes that are educational or therapeutic. The course involves actually planning for a group.

This course will enable participants to:
� Have a greater understanding of group dynamics and group work theories
� Understand their part in the development and progress of a group
� Improve on communications and people skills for working with reluctant participants
� Have planned and presented group tasks and received group feedback
� Consider and reflect on their own practice

DANOS units supported by Groupwork Skills training:
AA2 Relate to, and interact with, individuals
AA4 Promote the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of individuals
AA6 Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals
AC1 Reflect on and develop your practice
AC2 Make use of supervision
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects
AD2 Facilitate learning through presentations and activities
AD3 Facilitate group learning
AD4 Develop and disseminate information and advice about substance use, health and social well-being
AG2 Contribute to care planning and review
AI3 Counsel groups of individuals about their substance use using recognised theoretical models

12. Training the Trainers

This course is for experienced workers who need to develop their skills in planning and implementing training courses or strategies.

This course will enable participants to:
� Identify training needs of individuals and the organisation
� Plan courses and programmes to suit the level of participants
� Plan and implement a training strategy
� Understand the DANOS units and map training accordingly

DANOS units supported by Training the Trainers training:
AA4 Promote the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of individuals
AC1 Reflect on and develop your practice
AC2 Make use of supervision
AC3 Contribute to the development of the knowledge and practice of others
AC4 Support and challenge workers on specific aspects of their practice

AD3 Facilitate group learning
AD4 Develop and disseminate information and advice about substance use, health and social well-being
BA2 Establish strategies to guide the work of your organisation
BA3 Contribute to the development of organisational policy and practice
BA4 Evaluate and improve organisational performance
BC4 Assure your organisation delivers quality services
