It is an attempt to explore the main characteristics of French comedy. The plot is comparatively simple but notable for its ingenious intrigue and comic situations. The richly polished language combines a mixture of satire with moral judgment of society. While staging the play, an effort is taken to underline some of the universal traits of character, such as pomposity, hypocrisy and deceit, which have appeared in all kinds and conditions of men in every age. Besides, a practice of exaggerated melodic pattern and vocal inflection and the study of stage geography are also some of the main purposes while doing the play.
