Dance Drive Crime // DDC's first record, the charmingly quirky "The Creation of Copernicus," came out in 2002.THREE YEARS AGO! Aside from a few random tracks included on various compilations, nothing has been heard from Yan and his crew since. Let it not be thought, however, that the group has been inactive in the meantime. To the contrary, they have progressed immensely, employing new and improved instruments and recording equipment to accomodate their new and improved approaches to creating music. At this point, any record they release will betray their development in a way that will undoubtedly surprise those familiar only with their debut. In the face of the work they've completed for their long-overdue follow-up, "The Return of the Ghost," that early material sounds strikingly primitive and simplistic. Without any intermediate releases to clue listeners into their growth, the striking difference between the two bodies of work are like night and day. And luckily, this time around, they've decided not to take their sweet time in crafting their next record. In fact, they have TWO records (the hip-hop-based "23 digits" and the concept record "The Holy Wars,") waiting in the wings. 2005 will be the year of the DDC. And lucky for you, you can say you knew about them before they became all huge and famous and everything.
