*** INTERVIEW ROOM - SUN HILL POLICE STATION - 10:30 AM *** |
Roz concludes her statement and hands the papers to Liz. |
DS Rawton: |
Is that everything you can remember, Roz? |
Roz sighs miserably. |
PC Clarke: |
Yeah, that's it. I still hate meself though. I shoulda done something! I shouldn't have let this happen! |
Liz sighs softly. |
DS Rawton: |
You can't blame yourself. There's only one person to blame here and that's the man who was responsible for this horrible crime. You're no more to blame than June Ackland is for pairing you two together and giving you that area to patrol. |
Roz cringes. |
PC Clarke: |
That's not how it's feels, Sarge. I feel like I let her down. I mean, what kinda officer am I if I don't even back her up properly! I shouldn't even be doing this! |
DS Rawton: |
Don't be silly, Roz. It's not your fault that some man decided to take his frustrations out on Polly. |
PC Clarke: |
Yeah I know. I know you're right. |
Roz takes a deep breath. |
PC Clarke: |
So, what else do I have to do? |
DS Rawton: |
Well nothing much unless you remember something else about the man that attacked you. We're still waiting on the forensic results from your clothes but I'll let you know when they come through. |
PC Clarke: |
I see. I really wish there was more but there's nothing. Only what's in my statement. |
Liz flips the statement open. |
DS Rawton: |
According to Polly her attacker was pretty muscular but you say he was scrawny-looking. Are you sure about that? |
PC Clarke: |
Well, I mean, he was scrawny-looking but he was pretty strong. I wouldn't call him muscular though. He seemed pretty young. Like his voice and behaviour. |
Liz nods. |
DS Rawton: |
How young, do you think? |
Roz shakes her head. |
PC Clarke: |
I'm not sure. Twenty, twenty-five. Maybe younger. |
Liz nods slowly, |
DS Rawton: |
Well if you do remember anything else, you only have to tell me. Or Duncan if I'm not around. |
Liz nods towards her chubby companion sitting nearby. |
PC Clarke: |
Right. Of course. |
Liz sits back with a sigh as she watches Roz leave the room. |
DS Rawton: |
Now for the tricky bit. We have to find him. |
Liz leans back and starts to think as Duncan nods slowly in agreement. |

*** ST HUGH'S - 2:20 PM *** |
Cass turns eagerly to Vicky as they enter the main entrance and head for A and E. |
PC Rickman: |
You reckon it'll be him? |
PC Hagen: |
Of course it will. Two people being CS sprayed in the one night? It's too much of a co-incidence. |
Vicky and Cass run eagerly along the corridors. |
PC Hagen: |
We know what this guy is capable of, so make sure you're prepared. |
PC Rickman: |
He's not getting away this time. |
Cass and Vicky arrive at the nurses' station. |
PC Hagen: |
Too right he's not. |
Vicky spots a nurse and walks up to her. |
PC Hagen: |
Can you tell us where we can find the boy who was having CS spray washed out of his eyes? |
The nurse looks down at a clipboard. |
Nurse Roberts: |
He's in bay five. |
The nurse directs them to the cubicle. |
PC Hagen: |
Thank you. |
Vicky and Cass hurry forward into the cubicle. Once they are inside they notice a hulking figure lying on the bed with a bandage on his left arm. |
PC Hagen: |
Right, get up! |
Vicky stares down angrily. |
PC Rickman: |
He's just a kid! |
Walton looks up upon hearing the voices. Seeing that he's now confronted by two extremely angry police women, James tries to make a run for it, pushing the nurse to the ground. |
PC Hagen: |
Don't be stupid! |
Vicky grabs hold of his arm and James comes face-to-face with her. He stares into her eyes. |
PC Hagen: |
You're not going anywhere. |
Vicky winces as James sinks his teeth into her arm. He runs out of the cubicle as Vicky composes herself. Then Vicky and Cass give chase. Walton continues running through the hospital, the two officer's close on his tail. Eventually working his way down more corridors, he comes to a dead end with a security coded door. Turning around, still catching his breath, he stares wildly as Vicky and Cass approach. |
PC Hagen: |
Stay where you are! |
Vicky draws her ASP and approaches James with caution. Walton paces frantically from one side of the corridor to the other, looking for a way out. |
PC Hagen: |
There's no way out of here so you might as well just give yourself up. |
Vicky warily draws close to James. Walton hesitates before brutally running towards Vicky, attempting to throw her to one side. Vicky takes James' weight full on her shoulder and topples to the floor with him on top of her. |
PC Hagen: |
Get off me! |
Vicky throws James sideways and manages to wrestle with him until she emerges on top. |
PC Hagen: |
Quick, Cass. Cuff him! |
Cass arrives to the brawl, kneeling quickly by Vicky's side and managing to cuff the young man. Vicky roughly pulls James to his feet and the two women escort him along the corridor. |
PC Hagen: |
Not so tough now, are you? Some girls can actually fight back, you know. |
*** CANTEEN - SUN HILL POLICE STATION - 2:50 PM *** |
Reg is pacing nervously back and forth along the canteen floor, hovering protectively over Polly. |
PC Hollis: |
It's not right, I tell you Poll. Women police officers should not be sent out alone at night! It's a disgrace, I tell you. I will be seeing Mr Chandler about it later on to register my strong disapproval of this policy with him. |
Reg continues to walk back and forth nervously. Polly looks up at him exasperated, finishing a third cup of tea. |
PC Page: |
Reg, will you just shut up! Please! |
Reg is mortified. |
PC Hollis: |
I'm sorry Poll, I'm so sorry. This must be a really sensitive issue with you at the moment. I understand what you're going through Poll, I really do. |
Polly glances up at Reg, about to scold him but instead rolls her eyes with a sigh. |
PC Page: |
Sure you do, Reg. Whatever you say. |
PC Hollis: |
It's terrible what they expect you to go through today. Let me get you a cup of tea, Poll. |
Reg walks towards the serving area when Polly calls him back. Polly pushes her chair back, getting to her feet. |
PC Page: |
No, no way Reg! |
Polly paces around the empty canteen, waiting for Liz Rawton. |
PC Hollis: |
Well at least come over here and let me discuss with you the possibilities for compensation, Poll. You can sue the Commissioner, you know. |
Polly looks at Reg strangely. |
PC Page: |
Forget it Reg, I'm not doing it. Now will you please just get outa here! |
Reg walks off with his tail between his legs. Polly sighs miserably, slipping the paracetamol capsules from her pocket and washing them down with some left-over cold tea. Looking up, Polly notices Cass bound into the canteen, a huge grin over her face. Cass' smile fades slightly when she sees Polly but she walks over to the table and sits down next to her. |
PC Rickman: |
I've got some good news, Polly. |
PC Page: |
Oh, yeah? That's be a nice change at the moment. |
Cass smiles sympathetically at Polly. |
PC Rickman: |
How are you coping, first? Did you sleep all right last night? |
PC Page: |
Not exactly. Didn't expect to though. How's Roz doing? |
PC Rickman: |
She's fine. A bit upset but I saw her this morning and she looked a lot better. |
Cass is having difficulty containing her excitement. Polly looks confused at Cass. |
PC Page: |
You wanna let me in on the Cheshire cat face? |
PC Rickman: |
We've caught him, Poll. There was a kid at the hospital having CS Spray washed out of his eyes and we arrested him. It looks like the same kid that assaulted you yesterday. Vicky's taking him to custody but I just had to tell someone or I'd burst! |
Polly turns back to the table, without a sound. |
PC Page: |
Kid? |
PC Rickman: |
Well, a man. But he looks pretty young. He's very muscular and even Vicky had a bit of trouble with him but in the end she overpowered him. She was great. |
Polly nods in response. |
PC Rickman: |
We'll interview him later on but at least he's locked up. |
Polly turns back to Cass slowly, still curious. |
PC Page: |
But you said kid. How young? |
Cass shrugs. |
PC Rickman: |
No idea. They all look the same to me. |
Polly tightens her jaw. |
PC Page: |
They all who? |
PC Rickman: |
Black people. I'm not a racist but I honestly can't tell whether he's twenty or twelve. Sorry Poll. |
Cass gets up and pushes her seat in under the table. |
PC Rickman: |
I have to get back to custody but you look after yourself, yeah? |
Polly nods up at Cass, still somewhat shocked. |
PC Page: |
Let me know if you hear anything, yeah? |
PC Rickman: |
Will do. |
Cass walks out of the canteen with her hat under her arm. |
