HAPPY BIRTHDAY

BACK AT SUN HILL - 10:05 PM

"Lisa's fine, just a bruise, but Poll's in surgery. They said she'll be okay though," Liz arrived back, informing CID, as they continued trying to track down Davidson.

"We've got a previous address for this guy," Rod spoke as he handed her the details.

Liz sighed, and looked up at him. "Could you and Deakin handle this? I couldn't be responsible for my actions if I was anywhere near him," Liz spoke as she went back to the intruder on the security tape.

"I'm not sure anyone here's thinking much about their actions, but sure, we'll go. You and Don stay here and track that intruder down," Rod concluded, as he stormed out with Deakin trying to calm him down. The last thing they needed was a judge going soft on him, because of police brutality.

"Simon Rivers," Don spoke simply as he handed the file to Liz.

"It's a match all right. What was he doing mixed up with Davidson?" Liz muttered to herself. She advised uniform and headed out swiftly towards the cars, Don trying to keep up.

ST HUGH'S - 10:15 PM

Debbie felt like she'd been waiting there for hours. Glancing up at Luke, she checked the small white clock on the wall yet again.

Everyone leapt to their feet as Dr Hampton walked down the corridor and spotted Sergeant Cryer with Dave and Tony.

By the time she'd reached them, everyone had formed a crowd, waiting for the news.

"Dr Hampton, this is Polly's mother, Ann Page." He thought that it would be best if they talked privately first.

Leading the concerned woman to a chair, Dr Hampton sat down and proceeded.

"Everything went well. Her nose has been plastered and both her lip and forehead stitched. The internal injuries were not as severe as we suspected, thankfully. We stitched up what we could, but she'll be sore for a few weeks. During the surgery, I completed the physical examination, and it appears as if none of her attackers took precautions. We've got solid DNA evidence, so that's a positive step. We also took blood samples to check for diseases and so far, everything is clear. She'll have to take some medication for a few weeks, to be sure." Dr Hampton swallowed, trying to measure Mrs Page's response.

"So, she's all right now?" Ann spoke hesitantly.

"I estimate she'll make a full recovery." Katherine paused, not knowing how to proceed. "There is one more thing, and as her mother, I suppose you're the one to inform," she spoke softly.

"What, doctor?" Ann didn't think she could take much more.

"It's all right. This has nothing to do with today." Katherine waited for the woman to calm down.

"Your daughter's pregnant." She watched the woman's face crumple up. Taking her hand, she tried to reassure her.

"It's okay. She's about two week's gestation. I assure you, this was well before today's incidents." Katherine watched as the woman took in what had been said to her.

"She never said anything." Ann stumbled to understand this.

"I doubt she had any idea. We were very lucky to pick it up. It was only through the routine blood tests we conducted, that the lad picked it up."

"No, I mean, this has to be a mistake. She's not seeing anyone. She never wanted this." Ann had called her husband over. Upon hearing the news, he turned straight around, and crossed the room to Dave.

By that stage, everyone in the room was paying attention.

"What the hell did you think you were doing?!" he yelled, as he looked Dave squarely in the face.

Dave stared back, mouth wide open in wonder; he hadn't known this guy more than an hour. Sergeant Cryer quickly got in the middle of them, before punches started flying.

"Settle down here. Now what's all this about?" He gently tried to calm Mr Page down, unsuccessfully.

"This sod here thinks he can just knock-up my daughter!" He threw a vicious punch at Dave, as Tony and Sergeant Cryer separated them. The room went completely silent, no one knowing what to say. Dave stared at him in total bewilderment, as Sergeant Cryer whispered with Dr Hampton.

As Mr Page returned to his distraught wife, Luke looked awkwardly at Debbie, then at Vicky, trying to work out if what he heard was really what he heard.

Tony had dragged the confused Dave back to a chair, as Sergeant Ackland spoke with Sergeant Cryer. Everyone was listening intently.

"Bob?" June whispered, eyes glaring.

"She's pregnant," he answered simply, walking towards Dave and Tony. The entire room burst into sound.

"Debbie, are they for real?" Luke asked instantly.

"Jeez." Deb sighed as she took off towards the doctor.

SUN HILL POLICE STATION: CUSTODY SUITE - 10:55 PM

Sergeant Matt Boyden was on the phone to George at St Hugh's when he saw Liz and Don at the security gate. Letting them in, he concluded his conversation.

"How's Dave coping with it all?" he muttered miserably.

"He was okay until the Dad went off at him," George informed.

"She's really pregnant?" he concluded, as he received a confused look from Liz, and hung up.

"Here's number one out of six," she spoke as she tried to forget what she'd just overheard.

"Right, this the leak then," he spoke disgustingly, as Liz nodded.

"Name?' Matt poised himself over the computer keyboard.

"Rivers, Simon Rivers." The man spoke apologetically.

Sergeant Boyden took his details and placed him in a cell. Returning to an overanxious Liz and Don, Matt proceeded organising a brief.

"What's this about pregnancy?" Liz asked as he picked up the phone.

Carefully placing the phone back again, he turned to them.

"Polly's pregnant." He didn't see any point in denying it; it'd be all round uniform by now. Liz looked at him in disbelief.

"They can't find out that -" Matt saw where she was going.

"No, to Dave," he interrupted her.

Liz and Don stood there, eyebrows raised, mouths open.

"How's she coping?" Don asked, breaking the silence.

"She doesn't know yet. They were in surgery when the doctor ran blood tests," he informed.

"That's rough," Don sympathised and began laying the videocassettes on the counter.

"How's everyone emotionally?" Liz asked.

"Stunned, I think. It almost came to blows a little while ago. Poll's father versus Dave, but that settled down. Now, what's here?" Matt decided they should try to get back to work.

"Mobile phone, surveillance tapes, the guy's already coughed so it shouldn't be too hard." Don spoke as he finished piling the items in front of Matt.

"That's a start, any word on Davidson?" Matt queried.

"Nothing, we haven't heard from Rod and Deakin yet," Liz answered, as Matt returned to calling a solicitor.

ST HUGH'S - 10:45 PM

Deb had been sitting with Polly and her mother, for the last ten minutes, since she came back to the ward.

"I'm sorry about my husband. He's so overprotective, but he doesn't mean it," Ann whispered quietly to Deb.

"It's a shock to everyone. We only found out they were together this morning. They'd probably decided to wait awhile before letting anyone know." Deb tried to console the woman.

"They've known each other for a while?" Ann continued, trying to come to terms with the whole development.

"They've been close friends for ages. Everyone was assuming they'd get together sooner or later," Deb answered honestly.

"How are we going to tell her?" Ann asked, watching her little girl lie there peacefully.

"I think Dave should," Deb answered without hesitation.

"He should be with her, you're right. Can you get him?" Ann smiled up at Deb.

"Sure," Deb smiled back, glad that Mrs Page had come to the fair conclusion.

Everyone eagerly walked over to her as she entered the waiting room.

"She's still asleep. Dave, we thought you should be in there." Deb spoke as she ushered him towards the room.

SUN HILL POLICE STATION: INTERVIEW ROOM 2 - 11:10 PM

"So, what is it you'd like to admit to, Simon?" D.C. Rawton stated firmly as she looked Simon Rivers straight in the eye.

"Davidson asked me to keep an eye on things, ya know. Hang about, keep him informed," Rivers replied confidently.

"Let's just start at the beginning, shall we? Where'd ya meet him?" Liz looked over at Don as she spoke.

"Been mates for years. Couple of weeks ago, we met up at a pub. He told me he needed me help," Rivers continued.

"He said he was tired of all those young girls, the easy ones walking home at night. Said he wanted something more challenging. Get a bigger bang out of."

Liz nodded for him to keep going.

"Said Steve, one of the guys that helped, suggested a police officer. Not only would it be more fun, it'd be more dangerous, he gets off on that. Anyway, we're sitting there and I asked what he wanted me to do. He had this all planned perfect ya know. Snatch the kid as a decoy, lure the woman. Home and hosed. I mean, he knew if he waited long enough, they'd send some plonk out on her own. All he wanted me to do was to be on guard here. Let him know if you guys were onto him. Man, ya took ya time though. He knew he was taking a risk with the estate, but he still outsmarted ya all!" Rivers laughed sadistically.

By this time both Liz and Don were pretty worked up.

"Get on with it!" Don bellowed loudly.

"Jeez man, keep ya shirt on, I'm talking ain't I? Okay, well, like I said, all I had to do was hang about here, and call him if you guys caught on. It wasn't too difficult though, everyone was yelling Parkmead this and Parkmead that. Anyway, it worked out all right in the end, didn't it? Ya know, she got off pretty lightly compared to previous ones." Simon sat there waiting for the next question.

Liz and Don looked at each other in amazement.

"So why tell us all this?" Don demanded.

"Well, coz Davidson's sick, ain't he? When you guys pulled me in, I knew you'd have the cameras and all. I'm not going down for stuff I didn't do. Besides, I didn't hurt no one, did I?" He sighed and looked at them innocently.

"Why help him in the first place?" Liz asked.

"I owed him, you've seen what he's like. I'd need a new face if I didn't do what he said," Rivers informed them.

"Right, so where do we find him?" Don asked not expecting an answer.

"Flat five, Canley Estate," he replied quickly.

"And who was he working with?" Don couldn't believe their luck. He just supposed this guy would rather go to prison then face Davidson.

"Gareth Spencer, Vince Andrews, Steve Lucas and Travis Paul." Simon took a sip of the water in front of him.

"Okay, interview terminated 11:17 PM," Liz spoke as she and Don quickly led him back to his cell.

"You buying all that?" Liz asked suspiciously.

"He's scared stiff. He knows we've got him, and he doesn't wanna go down alone. I think he's come to his senses about Davidson. Knows the guy's too dangerous for the streets." Don spoke as he and Liz made their way to D.C.I Meadows' office.

It didn't take them long to get uniform back up, and make their way to Davidson's.

ST HUGH'S - 11:30 PM

Dave sat patiently by Poll's beside, head in hands, trying to work through the day's events. The only positive thing was that CID has a good lead on Davidson and his gang.

Gazing at Polly lying peacefully asleep, he couldn't understand it. Why her? Why hadn't she been in the Area Car, or in one of the pandas? There was no point looking back.

Gently taking her hand he played back her father's words in his head. A baby. It wasn't fair on Poll. She still had to get through the attack. Let alone deal with him. How could he tell her? It was all his fault.

He let his mind drift back to the night that started all this. They'd left the pub after midnight, both too well oiled. He'd only meant to drop her off at her flat, but Poll had invited him in for a coffee. They hadn't gone further than the entrance hall, when Polly wound him up for being so overprotective. He only meant to say that it was because he cared about her, as a mate.

For some reason, he'd come up with the line 'Well, you need someone to look after you.' Everything had come out, although he couldn't remember a lot of it. Next thing he knew he'd woken up next to Polly in bed the following morning.

Everything had been awkward between them until her birthday. He didn't know if she wanted to continue the relationship or not, so they avoided each other altogether.

Dave was brought back into the present day, by Polly gasping in pain as she woke up.

"Poll, it's okay. You've just come back from theatre. Are you in pain?" Dave spoke soothingly as he stroked her arm.

"It's all right," Polly whispered as she realised where she was.

"Doctor says you'll be fine," he continued, as he squeezed her hand. He could tell she was about to say something, but then just let tears trickle down her cheeks. "Poll, everything will be okay." Dave whispered.

They sat there for about five minutes, until Polly finally spoke.

"Dave, I'm sorry to put you through this," she whispered sincerely.

"Poll, it's okay. We're all here for you. I want to help you through this." Dave stroked her cheek lightly.

"Can you tell me what's going on here?' Polly asked, having collected herself.

"Your nose was broken, and they also stitched your lip and forehead." Dave paused, then continued. "You had to have a few internal stitches, but Dr Hampton says everything's fine." He swallowed, wondering how Polly would react.

"How are you?" Polly had taken everything in, but was concerned about Dave. Her question cut him to the bone.

"I met your parents." Dave didn't want to talk about his feelings. He wasn't sure how he really felt inside.

"Are they all right?" Polly was worried about her mother.

"Your Mum's pretty shaken, but your Dad's with her." He realised he'd have to tell her sooner or later.

"How's Lisa? Was she hurt?!" Polly immediately remembered the girl.

"No, no, she's back with her parents. Just a bruise," Dave informed her, thinking of how to go about this. He waited for Polly to ask another question, but she didn't, so he took a deep breath and began. "Polly, there's something else I need to talk to you about." Dave spoke slowly and carefully.

"What is it?" she replied worriedly.

"While the doctor was operating, she ran a blood test," he continued, waiting for a response.

Polly suddenly realised the implications. She could have contracted any number of diseases. AIDS, STD's, anything.

"Dave, what, what have I got?" she demanded.

"You haven't got anything." He was finding this harder as he went.

"What else do blood tests detect?!" Polly answered her own question immediately. She burst into tears again.

"No, no, not that, please.." she trailed off hysterically.

Dave couldn't stand it, calling one of the nurses, he hurriedly left the room, bursting into tears of anger and pain the second he was out of her sight. Tony had seen him from the corridor, and came rushing up to him.

"Tone, it's all my fault, it is.." he sobbed into his shoulder.

"Did you tell her?" Tony carefully looked into the ward, seeing Polly distraught, a nurse battling to comfort her.

"Yeah," Dave replied.

Calling Sergeant Cryer to help Dave, Tony took a deep breath and decided to go in.

He sat quietly next to the bed, as Polly calmed down.

"Poll, nobody here knows what you're going through, but we want to be able to help you through this." He spoke nervously, as she took in what he said.

"It's all my fault. Dave can't handle this." She sobbed into her hands.

"Polly, none of this is your fault. Dave wants this more than anything, if you do. Only if it's what you want." Tony whispered soothingly.

"How could I want a child of theirs?" Polly continued crying, just thinking about it.

Tony stopped, and thought. There was a major misunderstanding here.

"Polly, the doctor said you're two weeks pregnant." He watched her face turn from agony, into disbelief, into pure relief.

"Tony, Dave and I.."

He cut her off with a gentle smile. "I know all about it," he informed her as he called Dave back in.

Quietly slipping out of the room, as the two of them apologised continuously, he winked at Sergeant Cryer, knowing that Dave would be there.

DAVIDSON'S FLAT - 11:35 PM

"Uniform are in position. We all ready here?' Liz asked nervously, as she prepared to approach the door.

"Go go go," Rod muttered into the radio.

The door was burst open, and the apartment filled with officers. No one could believe it. There he was, sitting in front of the television, calmly smoking a cigarette.

"Jacob Davidson, you're under arrest for the rape of a police officer. Your don't have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned, something you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence." Sam quickly handcuffed him as Liz yelled him his rights. It didn't take the group long to search his flat.

Each room they entered sent another disgusted officer outside ill. Liz had to push her dinner down constantly as she sifted through magazines, drawings and photos. She discreetly collected the newest batch, sealing them away from the eyes of uniformed officers.

Everything was pretty quiet in the van on the way back to Sun Hill. Nobody wanted to risk putting a foot wrong.

Arriving back at the station, Matt shoved Davidson into a cell, and returned to the small group waiting in custody reception.

"You'd better keep you're eye on those keys, Sarge," Sam spoke as he retrieved his cuffs.

"You all know we have to do this perfectly. Any little slip, and his lawyer blames us." Matt spoke as he finished inputting details into the computer.

Liz sighed as she headed off to grab a coffee, finding this just a bit too distressing.

"You all right with this?"

She was surprised to find D.I. Deakin walking behind her. "I can't stand the sight of him. God help me with the interview." She sipped her coffee quickly.

"You okay to go along with it?" Deakin was well aware of how emotional everyone was, given the circumstances. He didn't want Liz to be under any added pressure, and say something she may regret.

"I know I have to go carefully, Guv." She paused before continuing, checking that they were alone. "Did you see the photos?" she whispered.

Deakin nodded slowly, his eyes remaining fixed on hers. "I've made sure they're sealed away. The last thing we need is uniform getting wind of that." He spoke in a lowered tone.

"I've seen all this before. It just makes it so much more personal." Liz tried to find a detached way to deal with this.

"Don't deny yourself the personal aspect, Liz. Handled in the correct way, it's an asset." Deakin tried to sound supportive, he was positive that if anyone had the will power to solve a distressing case, it was Liz Rawton.

"Thanks." She nodded in gratitude and made her way back up to CID.

ST HUGH'S - 11:55 PM

June put the phone down and returned to the group.

"We arrested the leak, who put his hands up to everything. Gave us Davidson's details, and they're both safely in custody," she announced contentedly.

"I don't reckon that bastard's too safe around any of us." George knew he spoke for everyone on the team.

"CID have stressed that we watch our every move on this. One wrong step, and his brief will have him out on a technicality," June warned, although picturing in her mind what she'd like to do to Davidson.

"Fat chance. What with the DNA evidence?" Vicky replied angrily.

"All the same. We have to do this straight," June concluded as she went to check on Polly.

Quietly knocking on the door, she waited for Dave's nod before entering. Approaching the bed cautiously, she was relieved to see Polly looking a lot better.

"Polly, Dave. I thought you'd like to know we've got the leak and Davidson in custody."

"Thanks, Sarge," Dave replied, noticing the confused look on Polly's face.

"What leak?" Polly turned to June.

"Simon Rivers. He was working with Davidson. We observed him up in CID, passing on information to Davidson," June informed Polly briefly.

"What about the others?" Polly looked down at her hands as she spoke.

"We've got their names, and are tracking them down now," June answered, and they all turned as Dr Hampton entered the room.

"Polly, are you in any discomfort?" she asked softly as she wrote down a few things on her chart.

"It's not too bad," Polly answered miserably.

"Everything went fine in theatre. You'll need to stay in for three to four days though." Katherine spoke as she raised an eyebrow in question to Dave.

"It's all right, I know about it," Polly informed the doctor.

"I'm sorry this all happened at the same time. This must come as a shock," Katherine sympathised.

"You could say that. I'm sorry, I haven't had much time to get used to this idea." Polly didn't know what say. She hadn't worked through how she felt inside.

"No problem. I'm around if you have any concerns. I'll check on you again in the morning." Katherine smiled warmly and left the room, accompanied by June.

"Poll, about the baby. Whatever you want to do is fine by me. I don't know how you're feeling. I'm just so sorry to have put you in this situation." Dave sighed miserably.

She gently reached for his hand, and looked him straight in the eye. "Dave, I haven't begun to deal with today yet. All I know is that this child is not a part of that. It's ours." Polly watched his face relax. She could tell he really wanted this.

AUGUST 16TH
SUN HILL CID - 12:35 AM

Liz was practically falling asleep in front of Davidson's case notes. Rod stood up and took a seat next to her.

"I think we should leave this until tomorrow morning," he spoke, immediately receiving a negative look from Liz.

"We've got to interview him before he thinks his way out of it," she argued.

"With Rivers' confession, the DNA evidence, and all the radio logs, I hardly think he'll be thinking anything except for how he's going to pass the time over the fifteen years or so in prison."

"I know you're right, I just wanna clear this up." Liz revived her energy level, trying to convince Rod she was up for this.

"We'll all be thinking straighter in the morning. Liz, you know we have to be on the ball for this one. Now, uniform has picked up both Steve Lucas and Travis Paul. You know it's best to wait," he concluded, returning to his desk, and packing up his things for the night.

"Yeah, Rod. I'd better be off, I suppose. Think I'll call into St Hugh's on the way though. Get an update." She sighed as she switched off the desk light and grabbed her coat.

ST HUGH'S - 12:40 AM

Luke, Vicky, and Debbie had received the update from June, and thought it best if they called it a night.

"Can't we see Poll?' Luke asked, as they prepared to leave.

"Maybe just for a minute?" Vicky turned to Debbie pleadingly.

"I suppose so." She gave in and led them down towards the room.

They all slowly peered into the room, and smiled relieved. Polly was fast asleep, Dave holding her hand, and resting his head lightly next to her.

He looked up and quietly slipped out of the room.

"Dave, we thought we'd better just see if everything's okay before we left." Debbie asked worriedly.

"I think so. She's at least decided to keep the baby for now, but as for Davidson, she hasn't talked much to me about it." He informed them.

"She went through it all before theatre, so don't worry, she's faced up to it." Deb replied, trying to gauge Luke's reaction.

"Some how congratulations feels out of place, but you know what I mean." Vicky muttered awkwardly, as Dave put on a concerned look.

"What's up?" Deb asked worriedly.

"Well, you two would have more of an idea than me. What's happens when she goes back to work?" He took a deep breath and waited for one of them to answer.

"It'll take a while for her to feel up to it, I would imagine, but with regards to policy, she'll be back to normal routine until about the fifth month, and then light duties. It's up to June in the end though." Vicky informed him slowly.

They all said their goodbyes, as Dave headed out for a quick coffee.

Pacing around with Tony in the waiting room as he drank, he nodded as Liz approached them.

"Thought I'd just pop in to see how everything's going." Liz spoke warmly.

"Poll's asleep at the moment. We hear you got Davidson." Dave asked eagerly.

"Yeah, got that leak too. Rivers was a big help. He couldn't wait to cough. Gave us Davidson's address, and it was all downhill from there." Liz looked around, noticing that uniform had all left.

"What about the others?" Tony asked.

"We're got two of them in custody. Can't seem to locate the other two though." Liz paused, hesitant to bring the subject up.

"I heard about the baby. How's she taking it?' Liz waited for a response.

"Better than I expected, actually. Doesn't make me feel any better though." Dave sighed.

"Stop blaming yourself, Dave. Put it down to Davidson and bad timing." Liz patted him comfortingly on the back.

"I know you're right. Have you tracked down the press leak yet?" Dave hadn't forgotten about that, although it appeared everyone else had.

"I'd put it down to a combination of P.C. Edwards and Rivers. You heard about that?" Liz had only grabbed a moment with Sergeant Cryer about the news report.

"Who the hell's this P.C. Edwards then?" Tony jumped in angrily.

"Reg Hollis heard that P.C. Michael Edwards had gone to the press with the news that a female officer and a little girl had been abducted by Davidson. We can only assume that somehow Rivers is responsible for giving out her name and the details.

Tony sighed, and looked over at Dave.

"You interviewed Davidson yet?" Dave asked.

"Not yet, first thing in the morning. Rod suggested we get a good night's sleep, so we're more on the ball.' Liz commented.

"Probably a good idea," Tony put in.

"Well, I'd better get going." She smiled and left the two men for the night.

SUN HILL POLICE STATION: INTERVIEW ROOM 2 - 9:10 AM

Liz pressed the stop button on the cassette recorder as the radio recordings ended.

"You agree that was your voice on the tape?" Rod shifted awkwardly in his seat.

Davidson slowly licked his bottom lip, the one with the scab forming from Polly's bite. "So I said those things. So what?" He knew he was going down, but he couldn't resist seeing them squirm as he twisted the events.

Liz looked over at Rod, who was close to losing it.

"So, you said them as you violently raped P.C. Polly Page!" He stared coldly at the deranged man.

A cocky smile came over his face, as he looked across at his lawyer. "Who's claiming rape?" he chuckled confidently.

"A judge won't have a hard time coming to that conclusion when there's a recording of the victim screaming 'No, please stop', while on duty, not to mention internal damage and DNA evidence." Rod looked across at Liz, not believing the run around this guy was giving them.

"Okay, so I put my hands up. Now what?" He was getting bored with this.

"We just need to be clear on this. You're confessing to two counts of violent rape against P.C. Page?" Liz raised an eyebrow, questioningly.

"Sure, but I wasn't alone," he teased, the over confident smile returning.

"Let's just stick to you for now, shall we? Why don't you tell us your version of events from the beginning?" Rod sat further back in his chair.

SUN HILL CUSTODY SUITE - 9:35 AM

Matt roughly escorted Davidson back to his cell, and returned to Liz, Rod and Davidson's lawyer.

"His story checks out with P.C. Page's, and radio confirmation," Rod informed Mr Angus.

"You didn't expect him to deny it for much longer, did you? What with all that evidence," Mr Angus responded.

"It didn't leave him many places to go, did it?" Liz replied.

"Well, congratulations, you got the result you wanted. Just you see that my client is properly looked after until his transfer. Wouldn't want any police brutality claims for the judge to see, would we?" He knew they were all personally affected by this case, but he had his job to do.

"We're all going to do the right thing here, so I suggest you start working on a defence for your client," Liz sneered. She sighed as Mr Angus collected his belongings and left the station.

"Tread carefully, Liz," Rod warned, receiving an angry look.

"Shut up,Rod," Liz stormed off back up to CID.

Rolling his eyes, Rod quickly followed her.

"Liz, wait up!" he called as she turned around.

"Look, if you don't wanna see this through, we can-"

She cut him off. "It's not the case anymore. I just find it difficult to deal with people who clearly aren't sorry for their actions." She calmed down a bit.

"His attitude's not helping either," Rod spoke gently.

"Sick bastard," Liz whispered under her breath.
