HAPPY BIRTHDAY

DEAKIN'S OFFICE- 11:15 PM

"Okay, that's it," Deb sighed as they came in with the last bundle of towels, cushions and warm water.

"I can't do this any more, June," Polly wept as she lay there, completely exhausted.

"You haven't got much of a choice at this stage," June smiled softly.

Polly grumbled miserably.

"Sorry I can't offer you anything," June sympathised, as Polly tried to make herself a bit more comfortable on the desk.

CID - 11:35 PM

Liz and Alan had been in the middle of another deep and meaningful when she heard the action start taking place.

"Why, Alan?" she looked at him pitifully.

"Because I never forgave you for leaving," he answered simply.

"Why make Polly pay for that?" Liz couldn't believe the person that she loved so deeply, thought she knew so well, could turn out to be so insensitive.

"Because I can," he spoke with a twisted smile.

Liz just shook her head with disbelief." Alan, I'm sorry for leaving the way I did. I did love you once. Then I realised marriage wasn't one of my goals." Liz tried to dig herself out of the situation.

"Go on," he calmed down, and let his guard drop.

"I knew you wouldn't have understood how important this job was to me, and I wanted you to be happy," she continued.

"I was happy with you, Liz," Alan answered, placing the gun gently on the table.

"I know. I'm sorry. It's been over ten years though." She knew that she almost had him in the bag.

"It has. I'd not realised," he whispered back.

"I still care about you, Alan," she spoke softly.

"I didn't think you would. That's all I wanted, Liz. Some kind of explanation," he concluded.

DEAKIN'S OFFICE

"Come on, push, Poll!" Deb screamed excitedly, as she gripped her hand.

"Okay, Poll, stop for a second," June spoke, and she checked that the head was properly positioned.

"I can't!" Polly cried back, panting heavily.

"It's all right, okay, another push. There, head's almost there," June replied.

CID

"Please, let them go," Liz begged. She watched Alan's face take on a look of complete change and revelation.

"You're right. I can't believe I did this." He quickly walked towards the office, leaving the gun and keys on the table, as Liz ran downstairs to let the men out.

"What's going on?" Dave yelled, as the cell door was opened.

"She's in Deakin's office Dave, hurry!" Liz spoke as they all ran back up through the station.

DEAKIN'S OFFICE

"Okay, Poll's, head's out, just another-" June stopped as she noticed all five officers enter the room at full speed.

"We didn't miss it?" Bob yelled as everyone waited.

"Not quite!" Deb yelled back, as Polly gave another push, and June caught the emerging infant.

The child's screaming soon pierced the room.

"It's a girl!" June called out, as everyone began madly cheering and hollering.

Passing the child quickly to Poll, who now had Dave by her side, it was a moment of pure bliss, as they saw their daughter for the first time.

"Samantha Chloe it is, Dave," Polly sighed, as she realised the name they'd compromised on matched the child in her arms perfectly.

"Samantha Chloe Quinnan," he repeated proudly, as everyone voiced approvals. Taking the child's hand, he lovingly kissed Polly on the forehead, fellow officers fussing over the child.
