*** LADIES' TOILETS - 10:20 AM ***

Liz walks into the female toilets and begins to fix her makeup. She pauses as she hears noises coming from one of the cubicles.

DC Rawton:

Hello?

Liz knocks on the closed door.

DC Rawton:

Are you all right in there? Hello? Are you okay?

Polly flushes the toilet and comes out of the cubicle wiping her face with a tissue.

PC Page:

Oh, Liz.

Polly makes her way over to the basin, reapplying her makeup.

DC Rawton:

Polly? Are you all right?

PC Page:

Yeah, fine. Sorry about that.

DC Rawton:

Whatever is the matter? Big night out last night was it?

PC Page:

Ah, yeah. Way too much to drink. Probably shouldn't have come in, but, oh well.

DC Rawton:

If you don't mind me saying, Poll, you have looked off for a while. Are things all right at home?

Polly quickly finishes her mascara, trying to brush Liz off with a quick smile.

PC Page:

Yeah, fine. It's just last night.

DC Rawton:

Sorry, I didn't mean to intrude, but if there is something that you want to get off your chest, you can tell me. Do you want me to have a word with Sergeant Ackland for you? Put you on light duties or something?

Polly grabs her makeup bag hastily.

PC Page:

Look, forget it. It'll be fine!

DC Rawton:

I mean, if you are ill, it could be a bug? You could be contagious!

Polly sighs, annoyed.

PC Page:

Liz, it's just the result of socialising with the likes of Vicky Hagen! For heaven's sake! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back out there.

Liz looks slightly hurt.

DC Rawton:

Well, I'm sorry, Polly. I just thought that something might be wrong.

PC Page:

It's not, really.

Polly heads for the door. Liz mumbles to herself.

DC Rawton:

Well, you could have fooled me!

Polly turns back to her.

PC Page:

Sorry, Liz, I don't mean to snap at you. I just, well, you know how it is when you're not well.

Liz raises an eyebrow.

DC Rawton:

Not well? Polly?

Polly looks momentarily confused, realising that she has changed her story.

DC Rawton:

Polly?

PC Page:

Look I, I..

Polly trails off, not sure of how to put this. Liz puts a hand on Polly's shoulder.

DC Rawton:

Look, I can assure you that this won't go any further than the two of us. What's wrong?

PC Page:

I, I..

DC Rawton:

Polly, it's okay, whatever it is, its okay.

Polly suddenly bursts into tears.

PC Page:

I'm pregnant, and I don't know what to do about it!

DC Rawton:

I didn't know you had a boyfriend.

PC Page:

Liz, this wasn't exactly a planned thing, you know. I mean, it was a one night thing, and it's all over now.

DC Rawton:

Do you know whose it is?

PC Page:

Well, yeah, but it's really complicated. It was a while ago, and hes seeing Vicky now.

DC Rawton:

Does he know? Does she know?

Polly shakes her head.

PC Page:

Well, I told Vicky yesterday. I didn't know she was seeing Jerry.

DC Rawton:

What did she say?

PC Page:

She was kinda upset. I mean, I don't blame her and all. But, well, I dunno. It's just such a mess!

DC Rawton:

I can see what you mean. What are you going to do about it, do you know? I mean, there are choices you can make.

PC Page:

I know, I know. It's just that there's something else.

DC Rawton:

Polly?

Polly takes a deep breath.

PC Page:

Vicky doesn't think it's Jerry's. She thinks it's Dave's.

DC Rawton:

Why would she think that?

PC Page:

Because it just as easily could be.

DC Rawton:

Polly, what are you getting at? I thought you said it was Jerry's?

PC Page:

I don't know, Liz!

Liz sighs.

DC Rawton:

So it could be Jerry's or Dave's?

Polly nods slowly.

DC Rawton:

Does Dave know?

PC Page:

No. I mean, I can't say to either 'Look, I'm pregnant, but it might not be yours', can I!

DC Rawton:

I guess not. Look, lets go out for a drink, you need all the help you can get with this one, Poll. Have you told anyone else?

PC Page:

Just Vicky.

DC Rawton:

And she is not likely to be very supportive, is she?

PC Page:

You've gotta be kidding!

Liz smiles reassuringly.

DC Rawton:

I'll take you out tonight after the obbo and you can tell me all about it, if you like?

PC Page:

Yeah. Ring me when it's over, yeah?

DC Rawton:

No problems. I have your number, I think. We'll get this sorted out.

Liz smiles and pats Polly on the back.

PC Page:

Thanks, Liz. I'd better get back out there, before June catches me. That'd be all I need right now.

DC Rawton:

But how are you feeling? Are you up to working today?

PC Page:

Yeah, I'll be fine, I've been keeping this under me hat for over a month now, so it'll be okay.

DC Rawton:

Do you want me to talk to her? She could put you on light duties, we don't have to let her in on the details. Just say you have food poisoning. Better than being out in the Area Car with Tony Stamp.

PC Page:

Nah, it'll be fine. I don't want this to get out of hand just yet.

DC Rawton:

But if you aren't feeling up to it, let me know, all right?

PC Page:

I'll be fine.

Liz hesitates, looking at Polly sympathetically.

DC Rawton:

Polly, you look sick. It would be silly to go back out there, and pregnancy can do funny things to your judgement, you know.

Polly rolls her eyes.

PC Page:

Liz, it'll be okay.

DC Rawton:

Polly, on second thoughts, I really think you shouldn't be out with the others. Vicky is hardly going to be friendly, is she? And if there is a stressful situation things might, well, get out of hand for you.

PC Page:

Liz, I'm perfectly capable of handling stuff out there, ya know! I feel fine now!

DC Rawton:

Well, it's just that there a few jobs in CID that I know Deakin wants sorting. It won't take a few minutes to okay with Sergeant Ackland. Nothing permanent, of course, just until you get over the sickness, even if it is only for the rest of the shift?

PC Page:

Liz, this is ridiculous! There's nothing wrong with me!

DC Rawton:

Its probably best for the child, and June won't want to hear that she has been putting a pregnant officer in the Area Car on a constant basis.

Polly sighs.

DC Rawton:

C'mon, Poll, even if it is only for the rest of the day.

PC Page:

I know. I know, you're right. I just, I hate this! June'll wanna know what's wrong, and you know what Vicky's like!

DC Rawton:

We'll say you have food poisoning and hopefully Vicky won't even find out until it's too late to do any damage. She has been assigned to CID for the next few weeks, with Dave.

PC Page:

Oh, right. To be honest, I wasn't exactly relishing the idea of taking some of those fast corners with Tony. I'll speak to June.

DC Rawton:

That is probably for the best! I'll walk you to the Sergeants office, if you like!

PC Page:

Thanks.

Polly and Liz head out of the toilets and walk towards June's office.

DC Rawton:

There you go, Polly. Do you want me to wait?

Liz knocks on the door.

PC Page:

You don't have to.

DC Rawton:

Its okay, if you'd rather I did?

PC Page:

It'll be okay, really.

June sees the two officers waiting outside.

Sgt. Ackland:

Polly? Liz? Come in.

DC Rawton:

Just Polly, Sarge, Im just passing!

Polly nods at Liz, as she makes her way into June's office.

Sgt. Ackland:

What is the problem, Polly?

Polly hesitates before continuing.

Sgt. Ackland:

Polly?

PC Page:

Sarge, I haven't been feeling well. I think it may be food poisoning or something. I was wondering, if it's possible, could I maybe swap with Cass in front office. Just for the rest of the shift?

Sgt. Ackland:

Are you all right? You could always go home if you like, we can't really spare the officers, but if you aren't well

PC Page:

No, I'll be fine, I just don't think I'm up to all the high speed driving with Tony, that's all.

June smiles.

Sgt. Ackland:

We'll put you on front desk for a while if you like, and you can run some errands for Mr Monroe too, if you feel up to it?

PC Page:

Sure, thanks Sarge. Sorry to put everyone out like this.

Sgt. Ackland:

Not a problem. Let me know how you are feeling tomorrow.

PC Page:

Yeah, will do.

Sgt. Ackland:

Thanks for letting me know, Polly.

PC Page:

Well, it was all Liz's doing actually.

June raises an eyebrow.

Sgt. Ackland:

Oh? Well, it's good that you have people around that know what is best for you.

PC Page:

Yeah, I guess. Thanks again though, Sarge.

Polly smiles as she makes her way to the door and heads for the front office.

*** THE SATURN - 9:10 PM ***

Vicky gets a vodka and orange from the bar.

PC Hagen:

Well Dave, are you going to cheer up or what? I have had more fun with Polly Page!

Dave raises an eyebrow.

PC Quinnan:

That reminds me. What was all that about back in CID?

PC Hagen:

Still thinking about Polly are we? Don't waste your time, she isn't worth it!

PC Quinnan:

Vicky, what is going on with you two lately? You used to be the best of mates.

Dave polishes off another drink.

PC Hagen:

Best of mates? Maybe once, but that was before I found out how she treats her men. Look, that is Jerry.

Vicky indicates the tall DJ standing a few feet away.

PC Quinnan:

What, is that him? You never mentioned that he was your contact!

PC Hagen:

Yeah, poor Jerry! Stupidly enough, I was the one that introduced him to Polly.

PC Quinnan:

Oh well.

Vicky gives Dave's shoulder a quick squeeze.

PC Hagen:

Not much like you coppers, eh, Dave?

PC Quinnan:

Too right!

Dave chuckles.

PC Quinnan:

So, you are just mates, yeah?

PC Hagen:

Of course! I mean, I'm hardly likely to go for Polly's leftovers.

PC Quinnan:

Hey, quit the dogging, would ya! He might not be all that bad, I mean. He's obviously nice enough if you're friends with him.

PC Hagen:

Friends. Yes, but he was really hurt by Poll. I feel bad about introducing the two of them! I keep thinking that he blames me.

PC Quinnan:

Nah, don't feel bad about it. I'm sure he doesn't. It just didn't work out. Happens all the time.

PC Hagen:

Oh, sorry, Dave! I forgot that you were in the same situation.

Vicky smiles apologetically.

PC Quinnan:

Who, me? Never. I'm just backing off a bit. It'll all work out.

PC Hagen:

Yeah, but it is hard getting over it, when someone walks all over you. I mean, I know.

PC Quinnan:

It'll be okay. She's probably just having second thoughts about it all. You women are funny like that sometimes.

PC Hagen:

Us women? Don't put me under that title, Dave. I'm not in the same class as Miss Page. I mean, she makes out she is the innocent, but when it comes down to it, that is the farthest from the truth.

Liz orders another Coke and nods discreetly at the pair as she passes them.

PC Quinnan:

Vicky, you've lost me there! I mean, what are you basing this all on? Just because she spent one night with Jerry?

PC Hagen:

It's just me and Jerry. Well, we used to be more than just mates. A long way back. I don't know, I'm pretty sure that he is up to something down here. I mean, he is always scoring brownie points with the managers and stuff.

Vicky runs her hands through her hair.

PC Hagen:

Look Dave, let's get down to business, yeah?

PC Quinnan:

Well, you gonna introduce me?

PC Hagen:

Sure.

Vicky calls out to Jerry who walks over and gives Vicky a huge hug and a more than friendly peck on the cheek.

Jerry Granger:

Hello gorgeous, who is this?

Jerry eyes Dave up and down.

PC Hagen:

Oh, Jerry, I'd like you to meet a mate of mine. This is Dave.

Vicky smiles.

PC Hagen:

Jerry is in the export and import business!

PC Quinnan:

Yeah, I gathered that. Well, let's see if we can score then, eh.

Dave smiles cheekily at her.

PC Hagen:

Dave, shhh, youll get me in trouble!

Jerry Granger:

Score! Vicky? Does this Dave know what you do for a living?

PC Quinnan:

Enough 'bout all that, yeah?

Dave shakes the mans hand boldly.

PC Quinnan:

Vicky said youd be able to sort me out with some stuff, yeah?

Jerry looks sceptical.

PC Hagen:

Jerry, Im the reason that Davey here isnt behind bars. I should have mentioned it earlier.

PC Quinnan:

Yeah, I owe you big time for that last job.

Vicky kisses Dave on the cheek.

PC Hagen:

You paid your dues!

Dave blushes awkwardly.

PC Quinnan:

Ah, sure, yeah.

Jerry Granger:

Dues? Vicky?

PC Hagen:

Purely monetary, Jerry, I promise!

Dave chuckles softly.

Jerry Granger:

Vicky, could I have a word with you for a second?

PC Hagen:

Sure. I'll just be a second, Dave!

Liz slowly makes her way towards the group, being sure to stay out of sight.

PC Quinnan:

No problem. You do what ya gotta do, Vicks!

Dave grins at her. Jerry takes Vickys hand and leads her to the slightly less crowded area near the stage door.

Jerry Granger:

What is going on, Vicky?

Liz trails them, just managing to catch the conversation.

PC Hagen:

I don't understand.

Vicky smiles innocently.

Jerry Granger:

Who is this guy? And are you serious about this business?

PC Hagen:

Look, Jerry, I should have told you earlier, but I am hardly the by the book copper you thought I was. You know I'll keep them clean and make sure that they stay out of trouble in return for, shall we say, 'favours'.

Liz raises an eyebrow, as Vicky carries off the role perfectly.

PC Hagen:

I'm really sorry I have led you on about all this. I mean, you must be really surprised about the whole thing and I'd understand if you didn't want anything to do with me, but if this gets out, you will regret it!

Jerry smiles.

Jerry Granger:

Vicky darling! I couldn't be happier. In fact, I could probably sort your, ah, friend Dave out with something, but not tonight.

PC Hagen:

Dave is an ex-boyfriend, Jerry. You have nothing to worry about. Why not tonight?

Jerry Granger:

Well, the clubs usual dealer is away with the manager, but I can definitely set something up for you. The manager might want to hear about out police relations too.

PC Hagen:

Look, Jerry, that is all well and good, but I am not in anybodys pocket, understand! I work alone!

Jerry Granger:

Yeah, yeah, sure. I'll be discreet, yeah?

Vicky smiles as Jerry takes the bait.

PC Hagen:

And you had better not let Dave find out about us or he will seriously underestimate my abilities not to mix business with pleasure.

Jerry Granger:

Not a problem. I'll tone it down, then?

PC Hagen:

I'd appreciate it, it would make things easier.

Jerry grabs Vicky around the waist and kisses her.

PC Hagen:

What did I just say?

Jerry Granger:

Dave isn't here, is he?

Vicky playfully swipes at Jerry.

PC Hagen:

No, but just tone it down, all right?

Vicky makes her way back out to the main dance floor with Jerry following behind. Liz slips back into the crowd, nodding at Dave, who looks expectantly at Vicky.

PC Hagen:

Dave, Jerry can't sort you tonight, but he is willing to have a word to his boss about whether we can sort out a permanent arrangement. Shall we meet back here tomorrow night then, Jerry?

Dave raises an eyebrow at Jerry.

Jerry Granger:

Yeah, my boss and the club's main supplier will be back from Amsterdam tomorrow morning.

Jerry whispers to Vicky.

Jerry Granger:

But I'll be home later.

Vicky smiles quickly at Jerry.

PC Hagen:

Whatever. Be here tomorrow, yeah?

PC Quinnan:

Right, nice to meet ya, Jerry. Thanks for this, yeah. I owe ya!

PC Hagen:

You'll owe me too, Dave.

Vicky kisses Jerry on the cheek.

PC Hagen:

Well, if you haven't got anything, we'd best be off, eh, Dave?

Dave nods as they head back to the bar. Jerry blows Vicky a kiss. Vicky glares at Jerry.

PC Hagen:

I think we can call this a success, Dave!

PC Quinnan:

Yeah, Deakin'll be happy.

The pair slowly make their way outside and into the back of the van, bringing Deakin up to speed. Liz quickly makes her way out, joining the group a few moments later.

PC Hagen:

Well, we have a date tomorrow night, guv. I think we can get the big players with this one!

Liz approaches Vicky after Deakin has debriefed them.

DC Rawton:

Vicks, can I offer you a ride home?

PC Hagen:

Well Dave was going to drop me, but it is out of his way. Sure!

DC Rawton:

Right.

Liz and Vicky head over to her car and begin the drive home.

PC Hagen:

Thanks for this Liz. I mean, you don't have to, you know!

DC Rawton:

Not a problem. Anyway, it gives us a chance to talk.

PC Hagen:

Talk?

DC Rawton:

Well, yeah. You know, you pulled that deal off really well back there.

PC Hagen:

Oh, thanks.

Vicky is unsure where this conversation is headed.

DC Rawton:

Yeah, had him eating out of the palm of your hand. You didn't mention back at briefing that you were seeing him though.

Vicky tries not to look as shocked as she feels.

PC Hagen:

Seeing him? Liz, what are you getting at?

DC Rawton:

When you two went to organise the deal. What, you didn't really think you'd be outta me sight or hearing range, did ya? You ought to know better than that, Vicky.

PC Hagen:

Why do you think I got to the point? I, uh, knew you were there, Liz!

Liz raises an eyebrow curiously.

DC Rawton:

Really, Vicky?

PC Hagen:

I admit, I was involved in a casual relationship with Jerry, but we weren't what we used to be, if you know what I mean. I don't like mixing business with pleasure. But in the case of bastards like him, you have to make allowances! He seems to think that we are more like friends now and I wouldn't want to sacrifice an entire obbo thats actually getting somewhere, for the sake of my love life, would I?

DC Rawton:

Oh, no, of course not. So the kiss I witnessed was that of a friend, was it?

PC Hagen:

Well, for old times sake and all that. Im about to drop him right in it, better make the most of what time he has left!

Vicky laughs quite forcedly.

DC Rawton:

I see.

Liz is not convinced.

PC Hagen:

Was that the reasoning behind this whole lift home? Because Liz, I am more than capable of looking after myself!

DC Rawton:

No, Vicky, of course not. I'm actually heading over to Polly's, and your place is on the way.

PC Hagen:

Polly's? Oh. I didn't know you were friendly with her.

DC Rawton:

Well, maybe you don't know everything, eh Vicky?

PC Hagen:

I know pretty much everything about Polly's current situation.

DC Rawton:

Oh yeah Vicky, like what?

Vicky examines her nails.

PC Hagen:

Like she is knocked up and has no idea who the father is.

Liz tries to looked stunned.

DC Rawton:

You serious, Vicky? What happened? How'd you find all this out?

PC Hagen:

Well, she told me of course. Its really, really sad. She has made up for her man-drought by screwing every bloke in sight. Other women's boyfriends and police constables being no exception.

DC Rawton:

Oh, so what's she gonna do about it all?

PC Hagen:

Who knows? I mean, she has no idea who the father is, like it matters and when I spoke to her she wasn't up to telling the men involved. I mean, you'd think she'd be aware of contraception at her age!

DC Rawton:

That's pretty unfair, Vicky. I mean, it can happen to anyone. The police constable, come on dish, who is it?

PC Hagen:

I'm not really at liberty to say, but I'll let you know he wants nothing to do with her in that respect.

DC Rawton:

How can you say that, if he doesn't even know?

PC Hagen:

He doesn't know, but I have spoken to him about the whole thing and he said it was a one off. An accident.

DC Rawton:

What, so it's over between them? Was it one of the relief?

Liz tries to remain innocently curious.

PC Hagen:

I don't think it was ever there between them, and since you are so desperate to know, it's Dave, although he claims he was well pissed and won't admit it if you ask. He only told me cause, well we're mates and all!

Liz tries to look shocked.

DC Rawton:

Well, I always suspected there might be something going on there. What about the other bloke? Have you met him?

PC Hagen:

Well, you could say that.

Liz is curious.

DC Rawton:

Vicky?

Vicky turns away from Liz. Liz lets the subject go, pulling into the parking space outside Vicky's flat.

PC Hagen:

Well, thanks for the lift and could you do us a favour?

Liz forces a smile.

DC Rawton:

Sure.

PC Hagen:

Not disclose what I told you tonight? If it gets round the nick, I'll be hung to dry!

Vicky smiles.

DC Rawton:

No problem. I can keep a secret.

PC Hagen:

Thanks, I knew you wouldn't let me down! And it's probably best that we keep the whole thing with Jerry under wraps, eh?

DC Rawton:

Yeah, probably, I guess.

Liz smiles too sweetly.

PC Hagen:

Thanks.

Liz waits while Vicky gets in the door, and then heads round to Polly's.

*** POLLY'S FLAT - 10:35 PM ***

Liz knocks on the door, Polly letting her inside quickly.

PC Page:

Liz, hi. How was tonight?

DC Rawton:

Interesting to say the least.

PC Page:

You wanna stay in, or head out on the town?

DC Rawton:

Are you up for it, Poll? Because to tell the truth after the night I have had, I would prefer a night in!

PC Page:

Sure, yeah, it's probably easier.

Polly and Liz make their way towards the kitchen.

PC Page:

Did tonight go okay?

DC Rawton:

Well, job-wise, yeah, but that Vicky Hagen

PC Page:

What? Did she mess it up or something?

DC Rawton:

No, but she will go to some lengths to catch a villain.

PC Page:

But it worked okay?

DC Rawton:

Yeah. I mean, she has him eating out of the palm of her hand

PC Page:

She's good at that. So, another one down, eh Liz?

DC Rawton:

Well, we are going to aim high on this one. Vicky and Dave are prepared to get to the big guns. Apparently, the club owner is part of a drugs ring and this Jerry should lead us right to him!

Polly frowns curiously.

PC Page:

Jerry?

DC Rawton:

Yeah, the DJ. Apparently he is a friend of Vicky's, but if you ask me, there's more to it than that.

PC Page:

A DJ? That's him. That's the guy Vicky's seeing now.

DC Rawton:

Are you sure, but that would mean? Polly, is that the Jerry?

Polly nods as she pours the coffee and they head into the lounge.

DC Rawton:

Vicky said she wasn't seeing him anymore and that they broke up a while ago. I mean, they seemed pretty cosy at the club when she didn't know I was watching, but I thought that was just Vicky being Vicky.

PC Page:

Nah, he's moved in with her.

DC Rawton:

But that doesn't make sense. Why would she want to drop him in it?

PC Page:

Search me. I've never understood Vicky Hagen.

DC Rawton:

Especially if she is still seeing him.

Liz pauses as she tries to figure it all out.

DC Rawton:

Unless she is angry at him, for your situation? But I thought she would be the type to take it out on you? Not her boyfriend.

PC Page:

I don't even care anymore. She probably wants to take it out on both of us. I really regret telling her anything!

DC Rawton:

But the thing is, she isn't taking out on you, unless you count outrageously flirting with Dave Quinnan getting her own back. Polly? What exactly did you tell her? Something doesn't add up here.

Polly sighs.

DC Rawton:

Polly?

PC Page:

Everything. Well, she introduced me to Jerry. She kinda noticed that we left together, and then when I found out about this, I told her about Dave.

DC Rawton:

But Dave was just the one off, wasn't it? I mean, Vicky seems to think he was reluctant to start off with.

Polly looks up, realising that Liz knows more about this then she is letting on.

DC Rawton:

Well, I needed some answers about this Jerry bloke, and she was all too willing to talk.

PC Page:

This is such a mess! I mean, I don't know what's happening with Dave and all. Now Vicky's mad at me! I mean, why is she so upset?

DC Rawton:

Well, I imagine that the prospect of her boyfriend fathering your child isn't going down too well. But Vicky is highly strung, look at all the grief she gave Rosie Fox.

PC Page:

Yeah, well, we all did. I mean, it's not like I planned all this or anything! It just happened! I mean, I don't even remember him. I was as drunk as all hell for heaven's sake! I let it go too far, but that's no reason for her to be this nasty about it all.

DC Rawton:

Look, forget Vicky for the time being. You have more important things to think about. Do you know what you are going to do?

Polly shakes her head miserably.

DC Rawton:

Do you want to keep it? If it's Jerry's, you'll be on your own because he's in the frame for drugs. And according to Vicky, Dave is regretting the whole incident too.

Polly looks taken-aback.

DC Rawton:

Polly?

PC Page:

Dave is? Have, have you spoken with him?

DC Rawton:

No, but he and Vicky are quite good friends and she said that they had discussed it. Apparently he thought it was a one-night-stand. She mentioned there was alcohol involved.

Polly is amazed.

PC Page:

Well, kinda, but nothing like the night before with Jerry!

DC Rawton:

Polly, you have to talk to Dave and Jerry, and get this sorted out.

PC Page:

I can't tell either of them until I know which one to tell, and that'll be months!

DC Rawton:

What if it is Daves? What was the situation there?

PC Page:

We decided to leave it awhile, see what eventuated. I've been avoiding him ever since.

DC Rawton:

But it's not the situation Vicky described, is it?

PC Page:

If I'd known she was seeing Jerry, I wouldn't have even told her!

DC Rawton:

How do you feel about it? Do you want to be carrying his child, Polly?

PC Page:

When you put it like that, of course not. But what if it's Daves? Anyway, I don't think I could go through with a termination, whatever the case.

DC Rawton:

You can't find out whose child it is for months though, so no matter what, it'll be too late for termination. You have to talk to someone, Poll. What about June Ackland? Tell her what is going on.

PC Page:

I can't tell her because she'll put me on light duties, or worse! And, imagine once that lot get wind of this, I'll never hear the end of it!

DC Rawton:

Perhaps you could ask her to be discreet, but one way or another the relief are going to get wind of this.

PC Page:

Tell me about it! Anyway, why do I have to work all this out now? June bought the whole food poisoning idea today, so surely I can keep them in the dark a bit longer.

DC Rawton:

You should tell June the truth, it will be hard lying to her. And we'll have to do something to sort Vicky out, perhaps you can talk to her? Bring her around to see your point of view?

Polly raises an eyebrow.

DC Rawton:

You need friends at a time like this, not enemies, and I know which side Id rather have Vicky on.

Liz smiles.

PC Page:

You've never tried to have a discussion with Vicky Hagen, have you? She doesn't see other people's sides.

DC Rawton:

She can't be all that bad, she has to have a human side!

PC Page:

If I give it a few weeks, she'll be over Jerry, so it'll be easier.

DC Rawton:

I think she is already over Jerry. She is willing to put him away! Get it over with sooner rather than later. It will make things easier in the long run.

PC Page:

Maybe. I never thought I'd be in this situation. I mean, what am I gonna tell June?

DC Rawton:

You could tell her the truth. Sergeant Ackland can be a lot more sympathetic than you think.

PC Page:

I guess.

DC Rawton:

I know how hard this must be for you, Polly, but perhaps telling June will make it easier.

PC Page:

How can it? I mean, she has to follow policy. It'll be CAD, DIU and front office. The occasional errand for Monroe or Conway. Not exactly stimulating!

Liz checks her watch.

DC Rawton:

Polly! Look at the time! I have to be up tomorrow for a full briefing! I had best be off.

PC Page:

Oh, okay, but thanks for this, Liz. Sorry, yeah, I kinda forgot about the operation and all. You must be exhausted!

Polly leads Liz to the door.

DC Rawton:

No problem, Poll. I'll pick you up tomorrow if you like? That way we can figure out what you are going to do?

PC Page:

Oh, yeah, I'm on early turn again. Brilliant.

DC Rawton:

You can sleep on whether you're going to tell June or not.

PC Page:

Yeah, thanks.

DC Rawton:

Bye.

Liz heads out the door towards her car.
