You listen to your gut and lean forward instead of trying to defend yourself from the shooter. The shooter's aim is perfect. The bullet screams past your head and slams into the person standing behind you. The person with the knife. The person who was about to kill you. Instead of killing you, they tumble over the edge, head over heal. You can hear them screaming all the way to the bottom. The shot was perfect, but it wasn't meant to kill on impact. When you don't hear anything anymore, you put all four legs of the chair down and sit at your desk. The phone is ringing now. The gun is gone. The shooter has faded. You reach out to answer the phone, instead you turn off the alarm. It's time for work. That crazy dream, except, why do your feet hurt so much? |
