She held the hammer. Examined it. Turned it over in her hands and felt it. She married him straight out of school, the big athelete, thinking he was going to go places. Take her out of this town. But he hurt himself, of course, and now she was stuck in this place---

She wasn't the prom queen. She wasn't miss popular or best dressed in school, but she had plenty of friends. He wasn't the best looking or the brightest, but the colleges liked him and after college there would be the NFL and then the big bucks would roll in. It was all supposed to be a matter of time.

Now they were living check to check. She had to put stuff on lay-a-way last month and it actually made her cry. It was easily the most embarrassing moment of her life. She wasn't going to go through anything like that again.

The hammer felt good in her hands. It almost felt...right.

It would definately serve a purpose.

She snuck into their bedroom and avoided all the creeks as best as she could. She slowly climbed on the bed and straddled her never was football star of a husband. She gripped the hammer tight and---

she was so scared of what she had to do next---

but knew it had to, just had to be her---

not to prove that she wanted to, but that she could---

she---

took a deep breath and---

hit the head of a nail into the wall.

"The hell!" He screamed and bolted up, almost knocking her off the bed.

"Morning sunshine," she said and kissed him on the cheeck. "Just getting a place ready for what I bought."
