Tod's belly button was growing and he didn't understand why. He had always had an innie, but lately he noticed that his innie was slowly becoming an outie and he had no explanation for it. He wasn't gaining weight. He wasn't sick. There was nothing wrong with him that he knew of. He would have asked someone, but who do you ask about something like that? He was scared of hospitals. And he was alone. He was kicked out of his house when he was 17 and had lived on his own ever since. He wasn't good at making friends and he wasn't any better at keeping girlfriends for long. Now he was 25 and alone. All alone except for the thing growing out of his stomach. After a few weeks, it was still growing. And growing. He measured it. It was 8 inches long now. Tod was really freaked out and after 5 inches he was too scared to go to anyone about it. He kept it taped down when he had to work or when he went out in public. He thought about cutting it off, thought about cutting it off a lot, but he couldn't cut off a piece of himself like that. It was like his umbilical cord was growing out of his stomach but there was nothing for it to connect to. After it was a foot long, it became more like a tail attached to the wrong part of his body. It started moving. Sometimes, especially when he was asleep, it moved the most then. It woke him up. The longer the cord grew, the more sensitive it was. He found pleasure in touching the thing growing out of his stomach. But that pleasure didn't last. One morning he woke up and it was wrapped around his neck. Trying to kill him. Tod struggled with it, pulled it, fought it, but he couldn't get it off. He couldn't breath and the thing was just squeezing tighter. His vision was getting fuzzy and everything was turning gray. He found a knife in the kitchen and hacked at the overgrown thing trying to choke him to death. But he missed and cut his own throat. When his was found 2 weeks later, the thing was still squirming around. |
