Haikus and 'Poetry-In-Motion's
magnetic poetry and haiku contest submissions to poetry.com

for those of you who don't know, a haiku is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines.
The first and third line must have five syllables, and the second line must have seven. It's usually
nature-themed. Magnetic poetry is when you make a poem out of a jumble of words that they
give you, you drag certain pieces around to form coherent poetry.

what's your favourite piece here?
write me or say it in the guestbook.

STOP

shadows
of murder cannot promise peace

centuries of bitter revenge                                             weakened
         savage power                                                               people

time to extinguish the flame

---

DISCOVERY

love o'ertook darkness
and he found colors

a soft laugh
rainwashed

rolling in sensuous delight

---

haiku (picture given): BUTTERFLY

It flutters sweetly
Sampling all nectar before
Its fortnight is up.

---

haiku (picture given): LOVEBIRDS

Isn't it funny
Animals know how to love
Better than people.

LISTEN

listen
shadows whispering
fighting
laughing
as disappearing souls crack

DROWN
(unsubmitted)

l'onde
froide et torride
vient, tillant la vie hors du ramure
baigne le soleil

Note: I actually don't know French at ALL. Just so happened that poetry.com was in a French mood. I
actually used the Babelfish to come up with that one... it's supposed to be

'the wave/ cold and torrid/ comes, stripping life out of the foliage/ bathes the sun'. And then I lost
one of the little word pieces in the big mess. I gave up, modified it into a haiku and sent that instead. It goes:

haiku: THE WAVE

the cold tidal wave
sweeps the earth in its embrace
and swallows the sun

---

haiku (picture given): PALM TREES

Leaves tickling the breeze
Swaying to unheard rhythm
Sweeping in calmness.

JUST SAY SOMETHING SMART

desired you for 8 years

               now

myfistsclenched
sweat
dripping

           feeble indecipherable attempts

er
                      er

                it could have been.

IN BED

your sleepy smile melts me
half-closed lime pools

sunlight plays on your porcelain skin

a soft sigh
we lie awake
