UNARRANGED AND ARGUABLY UNNECESSARY FACTS ABOUT ME

---

1. In one word, I’m passionate.

2. I’ve had short hair for almost all 15 years of my life, so I’m finally letting it grow for curiosity’s sake.

3. I’m an Aries (April 6), and although I don’t believe in daily horoscopes I do think that someone’s personality is unconsciously influenced by their zodiac

4. I swim, run, know kickboxing and play tennis. I used to be on my school's basketball team, despite being short (5 foot something) and curvy instead of tall and lean.

5. I usually have to discover music and books on my own because my friends lack similar interests

6. My favourite poets are Sylvia Plath, Jorge Luis Borges, and Blake

7. I’m not a fan of makeup, I usually just put some dark brown, grey or black for my eyes if I remember to, and wear strawberry lip balm.

8. I don’t smoke, drink alcohol or do drugs.

9. I don’t keep track of my weight, height, calorie intake, and more often than not, the date, day or time. I also hate math, and if I write lists they're bulleted (this one a rare exception). So it’s safe to say I’m not compatible with numbers.

10. I listen to music by (in no particular order of favourites) Miles Davis, Marilyn Manson, Cold, Jack Johnson,   Norah Jones, John Mayer, Kittie, Rosey, Badly Drawn Boy, Eels, Milla Jovovich, Fuel, Deftones, System of a Down, Poe, Rufus
Wainwright, Rosie Thomas, John Coltrane, St Germain, Lucy Pearl, Etta James, Thelonious Monk, Vivaldi, White Stripes, Sade, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, No Doubt, Rob Zombie, George Gershwin, Muse, Coldplay, Slipknot, Enigma, Jamiroquai, and Apocalyptica.

11. I wear Crabtree & Evelyn’s L’attitude Body Mist in Equatorial, my favourite perfume scent. In the shower I use Neutrogena’s Rainbath and that smells heavenly even on its own.

12. My favourite place to be is my room, or the Mont Kiara Courtyard, or in resorts by the beach. I like chilly places, and when I need time to think, dark places. Oh, I also love bookstores and flea markets.

13. I’m addicted to joining contests.

14. I try not to read the newspaper.

15. I couldn’t live in a place where they didn’t eat chilli or make hot spicy food.

16. I have never tried Japanese food, except teppanyaki. I intend to someday.

17. I have a slight phobia of seeing without my glasses. In the morning, if I don’t find it after blindly groping around, I feel like I can’t get out of bed. I also think I look better with glasses than without.

18. I’m not comfortable wearing skimpy lil things or showing so much skin in public. Besides, I find  the power of  imagination very, very sexy.

19. My favourite book is Mark Z Danielewski’s House Of Leaves, which to date, I’ve read six times.

20. Out of all my cats, the one I’ve always loved the most was our first, Muffin

21. I first started writing poems at the age of 12, and I haven’t stopped since. If I had to pick a favourite out of the poems I wrote, it would be Jazz.

22. I don’t (can’t?) cry during movies. The rare exceptions: My Girl (the first one), and when Oz left Willow on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

23. My favourite TV shows are Whose Line Is It Anyway?, C.S.I., Frasier, Six Feet Under, Buffy, Great Books (Discovery Channel), and The Jeff Corwin Experience (Animal Planet).

24. I consider my religion (Islam) as a separate and deeply personal identity from the rest of my life and the world, so I wear, behave, say, and do whatever I like, as long as I never forget my religious side and the moral values that come with.

25. I want to take up either sign language or Spanish.

26. I also want to get out of Malaysia and see other countries. My friend tells me I would love UK.

27. When it comes to language I can’t standardizszse. I switch from American to British English (and vice versa) all the time. In Malaysia it’s pretty easy for this to happen, since a great number of us speak the kind of English in songs (you know how when people sing, they sound kind of clear and without accents? For example when Coldplay talks they’re clearly British, and John Mayer is very American, but when the both of them sing it’s harder to realise that.)

28. My favourite colour is (and has always been) blue. Green is a close second because it never fails to soothe and be all harmonious and shite.

29. I feel very strongly about nature. I feel that a lot of people are passionately discussing human rights, but not enough people are doing the same for animal rights and environmental issues. So many people seem to have forgotten that we only have one planet to live on and we’re fucking it up so badly.

30. I don’t believe in aliens per se, but think about it. In that in the entire massive outer space, galaxies upon galaxies where we’re reduced to a miniscule blip, it’s a little selfish to think that we are the only intelligent beings living in it.

31. I love my steak medium-to-rare, but for health purposes I alternate with medium. I love meat, period.

32. The one thing I'll never be is vegetarian. I just think some animals are meant to be eaten.

33. Other things that drive me into tastegasmic ecstasy are cinnamon buns, ice cream, and Starbuck’s Caramel Rhumba Frappucino.

34. I do want to be introduced to jazz, art, literature and Shakespeare properly, but I have to be content with checking them out myself

35. I’m really, really bad at remembering names and phone numbers. I have a bad memory.

36. I believe in destiny but at the same time I know part of it involves taking chances and controlling my own life

37. I have never celebrated New Year’s Eve in public, but I want to one day

38. I believe mp3s and file-share open up worlds of new music to people everywhere, and if your record isn’t selling, it’s because people think you suck, not because people are downloading your mp3s. I wouldn’t know most of the bands and singers I know today if it weren’t for the Internet.

39. What do I look for in music… mmm, I listen to hard rock, jazz, blues, and alternative. I’m also a sucker for anything with good jazz influences or terrific guitar talent, or sexy sultry vocals.

40. I love the rain.

41. I think Danny Elfman and Alan Silvestri are musical-score geniuses.

42. I try to be adventurous in food because I really want to be, but I always end up wrecking hell on my stomach afterwards.

43. I love the smells of lavender, cinnamon buns, rain and grass, apples, cooking, oranges and peaches, spices, old books, and even spices between the pages of old books (favourite spice: cinnamon). Smellgasms. Mm.

44. Despite my previous boyfriends I had my first kiss sometime before my birthday this year. After some more practice, it proved to be a brilliant day.

45. I recently took up guitar after feeling like the piano wasn’t ‘my’ instrument, because even after playing it for 8 years it still didn’t feel natural. Before that I considered the cello because I loved its haunting, melancholy sound.

46. I don’t like being in the centre of attention. Yet strangely the idea of acting in a play is very appealing.

47. Almost all of the time I drink plain chilled H20, coffee, apple juice, and very little else.

48. I have a voracious reading appetite that knows no satisfaction, probably because I've been reading since I was young.

49. I have an addiction to pastry.

50. My first (and to date, only) big depression phase was last year.

51. The first thing I’ve bought online was John Mayer’s Room For Squares album, at Amazon.com, after much debate with my mum ("You already have 60 Mayer mp3s!"), back in the day when his music didn’t exist in Malaysia. So yes, I do believe I’m John Mayer’s first Malaysian fan.

52. I would really love a broadband DSL connection. 56k and charging per-minute sucks.

53. I get lonely a lot, and that emotional part of me always seeks some kind of deep long-term romance and craves loving and being loved. I think it’s an after-effect of my parents’ divorce. It makes me disgustingly mushy sometimes.

54. Yes, I have read Rowling's Harry Potter series and yes, I did love every book

55. I can’t sew or even wrap books, and that probably makes me a disgrace to stereotyped womankind.

56. I love children’s books because of their gorgeous illustrations. I can’t find that in most novels because by then I want the characters and settings to be as how I picture it. But it’s always comforting to see the beauty and effort in children’s book illustrations.

57. I consider my PC as an extension of my bedroom; lovely and deeply personal. It’s also my CD and mp3 player so I keep it on almost 24/7

58. I'm not interested in playing sports professionally because I feel it becomes more of a burden than a joy

59. I’ve often been teased for lacking femininity. But people here stereotype too easily though and too often, so I decided not to believe them.

60. I’m not a fan of public displays of attention but I do like holding hands.

61. I’m so tired of seeing people dying and straightening their hair brown in this country. What is the big deal with brown hair? I have black, wavy hair and I’m proud of it. If only it agreed to look the way I want it to most of the time.

62. Don’t laugh, but I intend on staying a virgin till I’m married.

63. The easiest way for me to disgust my younger sister is to moon her.

64. I have zero tolerance for pop music puppets who have disgraced the name ‘pop’. I mean come on, whatever happened to the Beatles defining pop instead of Britney or some other bunch of dancing-singing-smiling perky freaks? I’m not saying ‘be unhappy and you’re cool’, but I can’t believe people would buy so much into something so fake.

65. Then again, I thank God for the mindless music because it distracts their fans from screaming “I want to have your babies” at concerts (or in my case, mp3s of concerts), over the voices of other musicians with actual, real talent.

66. I have a love-hate relationship with cursing. I curse and I love it, but there’s that sense of dirtiness associated with it that can rub people the wrong way unintentionally. Astonishingly I didn't curse as often as I usually do in this list. (Thank you, backspace key.)

67. When I look into the mirror I think “Hmm, some faults but hey, someone could learn to love this.”

68. I had one phase where I went absolutely fontaholic, I just could not stop. I still have around 450 fonts today, and I've been trying to avoid all those very tempting free-font sites.

69. I love the sensations of laughing and sneezing. Not all at once though. I'm the type that sneezes a huge sneeze at once instead of many little 'choo's one after another

70. My biggest fear has to be losing my mother and never marrying someone I'd love to marry (read #62).

71. Samaritan-ambitions: To 'adopt' a wild animal (from those nature magazines), to actually help out animals and nature, to have a complete stranger smile and say "thank you, you just made my day", and to register my Winzip.

72. I'm tired of being in the same place for almost all fifteen years of my life and not knowing any other countries except from books and a mess of blurry colours.

73. Explaining #72, I went to Paris, Belgium and Holland when I was young, not knowing that I already needed glasses. My world was a watercolour painting in the rain, and I thought that was normal. All I remember are bursts of colours and sounds for the different places, and that's it. I hate looking at those vacation photos.

74. My favourite Baskin Robbins ice cream flavour is World Class Chocolate. Hell, I like anything to do with chocolate. I'm a... what do you call those? A chocaholic. Hee.

75. I am actually living next door. You know, that woman who... yeah, her.

76. I type 101 words a minute. (here)

77. I can't cook for crap but I'll learn someday.

78. I have no piercings, and I probably won't ever get any. I've nothing against them, I just don't think all of that would look good on me.

79. I began to sleep in my bed the other way around (with my feet to the headboard) halfway into 2002. I don't know why, and the rest of my family decided not to question it either.

80. Favourite words: suffused, savvy, jazz, speckled, starry. For some reason a lot of 's' words come to mind, yes. Maybe other letters will bring their candidates forward later.
