return to poetrydustTruth Everyday
As the sun sets over the sea
Every day, the shadows set and mark
Sandy, bare footprints
Accompanied by hollow marks into the sand
Where shells were once strewn
She loved the gifts of the tide
The salt on her feet and the shells in her hands
Wet sand shaping her feet before the sea erased it again
She loved to touch the shells, to hold it up and look inside.
The big comic face grinning widely, etched into the sands
Were drawn by the man she believes to be her soul mate
He joins her too, his tool of craft swung into the sea
Everyday, they'd get back at 7, not too early, not too late
Every day, they'd live in their whitewashed walls
Brick-sturdy, windy, lovely, far from anyone's eyes
Where they could linger, dance about in the beach,
Free from the world and all its lies.
Why should they return to the world's many cities?
They have their own kingdom right here in these walls
The King, the Queen, population: one Dalmatian, one cat.
Out of the walls, their jobs are treasured in the small beach town
More than they'll ever be in any city
And they're happy, look:
He'll tell you with a laugh that her feet smell of the sea
She'll be pasting some shells on a collar for the kitty
It's worth abandoning the outside world
Because this is her truth
And actually, this is his truth too
They would gladly surrender their selves
To watching the sun sink into the sea,
To watching the world suffer away on TV
To getting home not too early, never too late
Living their life never alone with their soul mate.
