The Pocket Flag Project was conceived in October 2001, after visiting with fellow Boy Scout leaders who are veterans who served in Vietnam and the Gulf War.� Both of them carried small, folded flags in their left breast pockets.� These men related how important those flags were, and are to them.

Working with Cub Scouts (who were then 9 and 10 year old, first year Webelos)  to develop patriotism and respect for the United States Flag  -- the idea of having them  provide flags for some of our local members of the military reserves to carry in their pockets when they were activated, was born.�   The Project came from that effort and has grown from there.  Today those cub scouts have advanced to Boy Scouts.

Along with learning about citizenship and the U.S. flag, volunteers fold and package flags.� Included in each package is a card which says:
Our objective is to get as many pocket flags as we can into the pockets of our military personnel on the front lines.   We want them to know that we care and that we keep them in our hearts and our prayers.

We encourage you to contribute to our project by joining in with the cutting, folding and packaging of flags to send,    AND   by sending financial contributions to us so that we can purchase more flags to send to more front line troops.�  This is a nonprofit, 501(c)3,  grassroots effort entirely funded by donations.  We need your contribution to keep the Project going and growing.

This is a great project for Boy and Girl Scouts, church youth groups, school classes, etc.

To participate, e-mail us your intent and send your check to the above address.   Read the instructions on the other website pages for cutting, folding, obtaining fabric and sending completed flags.

If you choose to use fabric from another source please notify us how many you are sending just so that we can keep track of the scope of this Project.

WHEN YOU PARTICIPATE, YOU ARE AGREEING TO FOLD AND PACKAGE FLAGS TO SEND TO TROOPS ON THE FRONT LINES.   Please notify us by mail or through this web site who you are,  how many flags were contributed and where the flags were sent.  Include photos if possible.  If you get any local press coverage, please send a copy of any printed articles and videotape of any TV coverage, to the mailing address above.

As of April 2004, there were groups in all 50 states committed to this project.  Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops in Germany and Cuba who are dependents of US Military stationed in those countries, are also committed to folding flags for our front line troops.  Fabric or flags have been distributed to groups to make over 760,000 flags as of May 2006

Please send or e-mail the APO or FPO addresses (and e-mail address if available) for any military personnel whom you know are serving on the front lines.  We will contact them and have flags shipped to their entire unit.  All this is channeled through the website so that duplication can be avoided.
On September 27, 2002, scouts and leaders from the den which originated this project were privileged to personally present President George W. Bush with his own "Pocket Flag" during his stop in Denver, CO.
