..::Owning A RES::..
Having A Red Eared Slider (RES)
RES can make a great pet, but it is not for everyone. They make a great pet for responsible children and adults. Please only buy turtles that are at least 4 inches in length from pet stores as it is required by the law. But it is not illegal to adopt young turtles. Be ready to know that they can live up to 20 years. That's 20 years of caring. Also owning a RES can be very expensive. The tank, filters, water, food, and health care can take up a lot of money. These cute little turtles can grow up to 12 inches! Turtles can also bite but it is most unlikely. They also have sharp claws. Please watch children around the tank to prevent any injuries. It is discouraged that children should not handle the turtles. They can carry bacteria and children might accidentally hurt them. If they do handle them, they should always handle the turtles with care. Turtles can carry many bacteria such as Salmonella so wash hands after handling them or their habitat. Other than these negative comments, owning a turtle can be a wonderful experience. Studies have showed that owning a pet can help reduce stress. Also for children, it teaches them responsibility and the love for animals. Tips 1.Wash your hands after handling with soap. 2. Throw away the tank water by dumping it into the toilet and flushing it. 3. Do not let your turtle crawl around your house. It may spread germs. Do Not Do List 1. Poking its head or legs. 2. Picking up by its leg or anything other then its shell. 3. Do not put the turtle on its back.
