WHO? We are the Fourth Kota Kinabalu Company of the Boys' Brigade in Malaysia. We are a Christian uniformed body practising twin pillars of Christian Education and Discipline. Obviously, our domain is exclusively male, unless there is no equivalent Girls' Brigade company enrolled in the same church. However, women are present in leadership and advisory capacities.
WHERE? Our sponsoring authority is the Sacred Heart Cathedral (SHC), Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kota Kinabalu. Our meetings are conducted in the Parish Multi-Purpose Hall and its adjoining rooms. Band practise is conducted at SM All Saints whereas sporting activities are conducted at the respective venues.
WHEN? Official meetings are conducted every Saturday afternoon, 2.30 pm - 5.30 pm. Band practise and sporting activities are fixed on Sunday afternoons.
WHAT? Our activities are as diverse as they are exciting, with drill, Christian education, physical training and singspiration integral parts of the official Saturday meetings. In addition, band practise, sign language classes, football and tennis training are weekly activities. Throughout the year, members are also involved in community service projects, educational visits, barbeques, and specialized training e.g. first aid or firefighting. Camps, whether live-in or under canvas, are held on an annual basis. (Whew.)
WHY? Boys are restive young beings who, if not indulged, will either be on drugs or in murderous study regimes. Therefore, the four-pronged approach of the Brigade, incorporating educational, social, physical and spiritual activities, is the perfect solution to the perfect problem.
HOW? To sum it up: Just walk in. Official recruitment is from January to March, but new blood is welcomed anytime. Each new member is subject to a trial period of 6 weeks before being formally accepted as a full-fledged member.
