Virginia Woolf once wrote,
"we think back through our mothers if we are women,"
and indeed the women in my book often think back through their mothers. Their
mother's successes, failures, sorrows and strengths are the ruler by which
they measure themselves and everyone around them. The
textures, shapes and patterns of their lives were molded by their mother's
and their mother's mother.
While Noelle's mother had been her rock, her salvation, her star in the
distant sky, Isabella's mother had just been a forgotten constellation in
a poorly lit universe. Noelle's son and Isabella's husband, Collin, is as
complex and layered as Noelle's spectacular quilts. As the story unfolds it
will reveal clues sandwiched between an intricate world of past and present.
Isabella Nicollette is at the center of a loving, wealthy family. She seemingly
has a deep, abiding happiness that ten years of marriage to a kind and loving
man can bring. Her love for her only son, Connor Collin, is immensely touching.
Her ordinary life is suddenly made extraordinary through a set of circumstances
beyond her control. Betrayal and sinister events plague her as menacing shadows
plunge innocent lives into darkness. Transformations lie ahead for those who
survive. This experience will transcend everything that has come before or
yet to come after.
