Leafy Mola Workshop Supply List
Instructor: Patti Shreiner
Workshop Description:   The Kuna Indians of the San Blas Islands developed the wonderfully intricate folk art applique called Molas for women's blouses. This small version of a mola uses 2 layers of fabric hand-stitched with a combination of applique and reverse applique. A simple foliage design exposes solid, hand-dyed, or batik fabric beneath a top layer in black. Splashes of other colors are inserted or appliqued as desired.

Skill Level: all levels
Class Length: 3 hours
Teacher Supplies: pattern and directions
Students Supply:
* fabrics - tightly woven cottons work best. (2) 9" squares - one in black or very  dark color for the top, and another in a contrasting solid, hand-painted, or batik; medium sized scraps of fabric to accent small areas
* thread to match top fabric; inexpensive light colored thread to use for basting
* small, very sharp scissors
* chalk, soap sliver, or other marker for dark fabrics. The Clover White pen is very effective.
* pencil and paper or notebook
* bright lamp and extension cord
* needles - prefer applique or straw in size 10, but use size with which you are comfortable
