BENEFITS FOR DRIVERS
There is a considerable difference if you are classified as an employee rather than an independent contractor. If you are classified as an employee, you become eligible for protection under the Employment Standards Act of Ontario or other provinces. This would mean you would be guarantied all the benefits of the E.S.A.
1. Minimum Wage.
2. Vacation Pay
3. Car Expenses.
4. Pay for Statutory Holidays and additional time and one half if you work those days.
5. Protection for employee rights.
6. Proper lay-off benefits.
Employment Insurance Benefits Employment Insurance Benefits (E.I.) are only available to employees. If you are not classified as an employee, you are not eligible for E.I. Canada Pension Plan Canada Pension Plan is only paid to workers who have contributed to CPP while they were working. The income CPP supplies after your retirement will make a huge difference to your retirement years. Worker’s Compensation Worker’s Compensation is only available if you are classified as an employee. If you should be injured on the job, (car accident-slip on the ice, fall at the workplace), you’re out of luck. You’re out of a job. There is a considerable difference in both the money and the protection due to you if you are classified as an employee. These things add up and can be rightfully yours should you be successful in challenging your employment status. No wonder companies insist you are not employees.
