Parts of the third installment were shot during filming of Dead Man's Chest, with some principal photography done in April 2005. After Production of Dead Man's Chest, which ended March 2006, Filming of the third film continued August 3rd 2006 and is scheduled to continue until late 2006/early 2007. It was reported on August 9th that some scenes with Johnny Depp were filmed at the Utah Salt Flats. It is unknown how this location fits into the film, but publicists for the movie said the bright-white desert landscape of the Salt Flats was a perfect location for what they needed. If Davy Jones' Locker is the type of sandy purgatory that was previously described, filming for this could have been done at the Utah Salt Flats. Indeed, the idea of Jack Sparrow's personal purgatory being a waterless desert is entirely plausible, given the character's attachment to the ocean. Filming is currently underway off the coast of Palos Verdes Peninsula in California. A tent city for production has been constructed in the Redondo Beach Marina. The Pearl and several production vessels can be seen on the waters daily and helicopter filming will be done for overhead shots as well. Other Facts: Filming of the Third installment finished on December 12, 2006. Since filming began on DEAD MAN'S CHEST on February 24, 2005, the POTC sequels shot in six different countries, used 2,862,690 feet of film, and employed more than 4,000 crew members. The total amount of time spent filming? 3,409 hours and 24 minutes.
