Pipestone has two
Museums, one is the Pipestone County Museum housed in the
old City Hall building on Hiawatha Ave, and the other is the Spirit
of Peace Museum, housed in the Little Feather Center on 4th
St NE.
While you are visiting Pipestone, these are two places you have
to have on your to-see list.

The Museum
is open daily 10AM-5PM. Admission is free to members
of the Pipestone County Historical Society.
A $2.00 admission fee is charged to non-members,
along with applicable copy fees.

All are welcome to come
to the Museum to do their research.

12,000 people
per year visit the Pipestone County Museum from
more than 45 states and a dozen countries.
School groups, senior citizens, church groups, tour
groups, and visitors all benefit from the history
taught at the Museum and from their on-the-road
service.
Researchers also benefit from the archives and library

As a small private non-profit
group we rely upon the support of members to help
us carry out our mission of preserving, protecting,
and educating the public about the local history.

This Museum was opened in
2000, it is Dakota owned and operated, and is
funded entirely by donations and volunteer work.
Inside the Museum visitors
will see a variety of Native American cultural
items, including the history of the Original Pipestone
Dakota Community, Quarrying, Pipemaking. and the
old Indian school.

Quilts are hanging on the walls, each a
remembrance of a family member.

Entrance to the Museum is
free, however, there is a donation box if you
feel you wish to help.
Summer hours are 10:00 a.m.
- 6 p.m. 7 days.
Opening times vary in the winter, depending on
the weather, but are usually noon - 4 p.m. Mon
- Sat.
