| Community Voices Good morning Pine Oaks folks I say good morning because, you guessed it, its morning here. I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell everyone to keep up the good work. You know, Ive read every issue of this publication since its inception, and I have to say, this space seems to be nothing but a place for people to complain about things. This neighborhood is too warm, or this neighborhood is too cold. But no one feels like saying, this neighborhood is juuuuust right. Well I dont quite feel like saying that either, but I will say that its juuuust right. Four us are my limit. Im sorry, but I just roll that way, as the kids say. I try not to be so negative in life. Why spoil the view? I always say. If all you do in life is be negative, then why ruin it for everyone else? Why not let those of us who enjoy everything do so in peace in quiet? Then again, there I go being negative about people being negative. If I dont have anything nice to say, I should just make something up. So keep at it, Pine Oaks! Everythings going just fine, and I for one like it that way. Ramona Wheatly |

| Rt. 237 High School Fighting Spirit Hello there Pine Oaks. I have to say, Im very unhappy right now. I spent a lot of time writing Julys Fighting Spirit column, only to see it pulled due to lack of summer activities. Lack of summer activities? What about the preparations being made for the Rt. 237 Fighting Van Burens Marching Van Burens upcoming season? I had some choice quotes from band director Tom Notting about what the show was going to look like, though unfortunately he refused to promise the assistant drum major. And what about summer classes that were going on for students who needed a helping step up? I almost want to believe that this is retaliation for the bacon-in-the-pool incident, which has conveniently been blamed on local teens. But whats past is past, and lets talk about whats happening this month. The Rt. 237 Fighting Van Burens Marching Van Burens marching band has begun practicing for its upcoming season. Im very excited about the music were playing this year, which includes music from Modest Mussorgskys Pictures at an Exhibition, as scored for orchestra by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakoff and arranged for high school marching band by Phil Dugan. Tryouts for drum major and assistant drum major are in two weeks, and Im very excited! Theres also a football team, and theyve started practicing, too. Both the Rt. 237 and Pine Oaks communities wish the Fighting Van Burens the best of luck this season. Lets show them our Fighting Spirit! |
