Songs and Poems about PIGS

Just a note . . .
You don't need a great voice to sing with children . . . I found out that they think you are wonderful no matter what. Singing helps a child to remember words and tunes all their life. I can recall many of the tunes on this page from my childhood and love the unique way others have used those familiar tunes for new songs. I have placed a midi player for the music of each song. There are some cute poems about PIGS too! I hope you enjoy using them to teach as much as I do!
(Please wait for music note graphics in boxes to load.)

American Folk Song
Words by Mary Goetze and Nancy Cooper . . . Arranged by Mary
Goetze
On the day before Christmas the farmer did boast
That his piglets were best for the holiday roast.
Chorus:
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
He had fed them with barley and fed them with corn
So they'd be nice and fat for the feast Christmas morn.
Chorus:
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
Oh he dashed them with burnet and basil and bay
They were buttered and breaded to bake for a day.
Chorus
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
As he heated the oven it came very clear,
That he never could eat them for they were too dear.
Chorus
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
O the pigs sang a carol, the farmer sang too,
With the feasting forgotten amidst the to do.
Chorus
Tra la la la la la la la la la la
Tra la la la la la la la la la la

Ten Little Pigs
Ten little pigs rolled in the mud,
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one pig out.
Oink, Oink, Oink, the pig did shout.
(Count with 9,8,7, and so forth...then)
No little pigs rolled in the mud,
They all looked clean and good.
The farmer turned his back and then,
Those pigs rolled in the mud again!
Eight Pigs
Two mother pigs lived in a pen,(thumbs up)
Each had four babies and that made ten.(fingers of both hands up)
These four babies were black and white.(fingers of one hand up)
These four babies were black as night. (fingers of the other hand up)
All eight babies loved to play.(wiggle 8 fingers)
And they rolled and they rolled (roll both hands)
In the mud all day.

Pigs
Piggy Wig (thumb) and Piggy Wee (other thumb)
Hungry pigs as pigs could be.
For their dinner had to wait,
Down behind the garden gate. (Gate made of fingers)
Piggy Wig and Piggy Wee (wiggle thumbs)
Climbed the barnyard gate to see. (thumbs through fingers)
Peeking through the gate so high,
But no dinner could they spy.
Piggy Wig and Piggy Wee got down,
Sad as pigs could be.
But the gate soon opened wide
And they scampered forth outside. (hands swing apart, thumbs run in)
