| PIC WORKER'S UNITE |
| The union can't do anything for you.... If the union can't do anything for you, why is PIC management trying so hard to keep it out? PIC management knows that the union means higher wages, better working conditions, a say for you on the job and a written contract listing your complete job description. All the union wants is your dues money.... Yes, the union charges nominal dues. But why is PIC worried about you paying union dues? They know that higher union wages will repay your dues many times over. That's why! You pay to support your schools and churches, why not your union? The union will force us to go on strike.... Nobody can force you to go on strike. There will never be a strike at PIC with a union unless you vote for it. In Ontario, about 96% of all union contracts are settled without a strike. If a union comes in, PIC will close down.... PIC management will claim they can't compete if they have to pay higher wages. But thousands of unionized companies are competing successfully right now. PIC is a multi-million dollar company, why would they shut down if they are so profitable? They are using this as a scare tactic. All companies use this to scare their employees out of joining a union. Companies fold for economic reasons. The vast majority of failed businesses are non-union. If PIC is really in bad shape, let them prove it by opening their books. The union will be run by outsiders.... The union will be run by YOU. The union gives you the strength you need to negotiate with the company on fair terms. Thats exactly what PIC fears! GM and other vendors won't do business with PIC if we become unionized.... GM as we all know is represented by CAW, yet nearly all shipments in and out of GM are handled by Teamsters. All companies in Durham Region that GM does business with are unionized. All of those companies do business with each other as well. Why would PIC be any different? If I sign a union card will PIC management know? No! Never. The only people who will know are the Ontario Labour Board and the Teamsters. Both have strict privacy policies. PIC management may tell you, "youll never benefit from a Teamster contract because theyll never sign one". Since it is illegal to say this directly, they may say, "Remember, we don't have to agree to what you want in the contract" PIC is legally required to negotiate with the union you choose. Every company talks tough before workers organize; dont let them bully you. Its in the companys interest to keep its employees satisfied and keep the work flowing. Once you present them with reasonable contract proposals, management usually compromises. Before a union election, a so-called "Vote No" committee often mysteriously appears. This committee does managements dirty work. It passes out literature filled with company lies about the union. It spreads rumors and insults co-workers who support the union. "Vote No" committee members may be recruited from friends and relatives of management. Usually, they are promised special treatment or a promotion for their foul deeds. PIC management knows that if you and your co-workers are unified, you can stand up for your rights. The aim of an anti-union committee is to divide people and create hatred. Managers may try to divide people, but unions bring people together. Dont fall for the companys lies. |
