| An early wake-up (4:50) to the sound of no rain meant it was time to pack up the tent. I did so rather roughly then moved to the games room to fold it on a clean floor, and to eat breakfast etc. On the road at 7:25 in damp clothes! It was cool and cloudy but I didn't get chilly. Bancroft by 9:15 for some lousy pancakes, IGA, then a trip to the park to dry all my gear in the (first time in 40h) sun! Everything dried and I was rolling again by noon. Same beatiful contryside: lakes, rivers, large hills, outcropping rock. Few inhabitants! Three times today I was reduced to my lowest gear, going 5 to 6.5km/h (never below 5). Once just west of Hardwood Lake, once just north of Schutt. Also hit 71km/h going into Schutt, and 70km/h at the north end of the Wingle Road (heading north in Latchford Bridge). My hosts for the night are Bella and Emery du Manoir (Greg duManoir's grandfather and his wife) who are lovely people with lots to talk about and an impressive array of food. Bella makes almost everything from the garden, including some scrumptious dill pickles that we had tonight. Mmmmm. Had some local (back 40!) maple syrup for dessert, too:) Bella's daughter, Maggie, and her son Gabriel (9) and daughter Logan (5), visited and I had a good time showing the kids my bike and accessories, and talking about Terry Fox (they'd just done the Terry Fox run). Nice kids. Logan sat on my bike, too, which was interesting to see. She's barely as tall as the seat! |
