| The day started nicely alond the top of the Niagrara Escarpment, all the way across Concesson 8 (lots of gravel!) to Rd. 124 into Duntroon. The Feversham Gorge was pretty, while the views coming down the escarpment in to Duntroon were, as I knew, fantastic! Georgian Bay sweeps out below the escarpment in a great, blue arc a hundred miles long! Flat road through Stayner to Horseshoe Valley road, where things go mighty steep in both dirctions. Climbing the hill just east of Horseshoe Resort was almost 1km at 8% grade or more (7.5km/h). Going down a little further east I hit 67km/h - not too shabby. Broke my chain today heading into Anten Mills, so a quick fix and a good excuse for some fries from the 'Fry Guy' at the top of the hill, up which I had to do the walk of shame (the chain was broken, I swear!). Past Orillia I took the wrong road to Mara Provincial Park. That cost me about 4 or 5km, Got to the park only to find that it was closed as of Sept 5, so no water. A fellow on a bike showed me the way (11km or so) to McCrae Point, so here I am, with a little farther to go tomorrow than I had planned. The park is on Lake Simcoe's east shore and is geared towards camping. I am, of course, the only tenter. The water's warm, though, so I had a swim and washed my clothes. Dinner was in Orillia, so no need to look after that. I was hoping for a sunset over the lake, but it's too cloudy now in the west, so not worthy of a photograph. I seemed to run out of energy for awhile today, around 70km, so I hope that doesn't happen again. Felt a little sluggish. |
