I'm at the end of my first day biking from Bruce Beach, #43, to Hull, Qubec to visit Gabrielle.  It should be close to 700km total, so I'm aiming for 6 days.  Very excited to be on the road again!  The day started with a nasty crosswind as I went southeast along Bruce Road 6 to Hollyrood.  After that I had a sweet tailwind all the way to Durham, when the wind subsided.  I hit gravel from Kinlough to Bruce Road 4 (pic at left), but it was not bumpy and the scenery was beautiful.  Between the farms the trees surrounded the road and I went through some lovely forest, with small lakes (big ponds!) and marshes.  Hit 63km/h going into Formosa, then hit a huge climb out of the town (north) - 7km/h!  The hills didn't let up the rest of the day, which I should have expected, given the number of times I've driven this road to go skiing.  Cars just don't feel it the same way!
Bought a new water bottle at a brand new bike shop in Durham to replace my old Wilson bottle, which got a crack.  On to Flesherton where I learned about where I could camp and also had the best burger of my life at Aggie's Caf, another new establishment.  I found the camp ground on Eugenia Lake (see pic below) with no problem, about 10km from Flesherton, arriving just after 4 to set up the tent in light drizzle!  Didn't go too badly.  Of course, the rain stopped as soon as the tent was up!  No worries.  I had a short swim and here I am, watching the sun go down.  Tomorrow, to Orillia!

...right, but before I get there, I should talk about who I met after writing the above entry!  I wandered down the road to the next campground to use the payphone which was in the Games Room.  As I dialed, 4 guys walked in to play pool.  They were staying at the Camp's Cottages while they worked on the hydro lines in the area.  Anyway, they were a bunch of hic-town, good ol' boys who were happy to light up their cigarettes as they exclaimed 'Holy fuck that's a long way to bike!  Why??!'  They were fun to hang with.  Had a beer around the campfire with them and swapped stories about riding and snowmobiling.  I welcomed having something to do in the evening, but had to head home just after 8 since it was getting cold and pretty windy.  I'll have to come up with something better to do when it gets dark and all I have is a tent.  It's a long time until the sun comes up at 6am, and there's not much to do in the meantime.
