ALLAN DE LARA
Saxophone
Allan de Lara -- a rising star in the field of music, is
a product of multiple musical styles. His main roots in
Jazz music, combined with unique Pop and commercial tastes,
serve as a foundation for all of Allan’s work.
Why Allan has achieved such monumental success is easily
understood when one traces his musical roots. Youthful exposure
to varied musical forms unquestionably helped to shape his
unique character. At the age of nine, he won first-runner
up, and third place at the 1989 American Guild of Music,
piano competitions held in Detroit, Michigan. At the age
of 13, he began the study of the clarinet and joined the
award winning Philippine Heritage Band, and to this day,
Allan plays many active roles in P.H.B. At the age of 15,
he remembers watching his high school jazz band and was
mesmerized by the sound of the saxophone which persuaded
him to take a more active role, hence planting a growth
that has continued to mature successfully to this day. His
high school, St. Elizabeth C.H.S was among the first and
only high school jazz bands to partake in the Toronto Beaches
Jazz festival in 1996 and 97. At the age of 22, Allan has
graduated from the Humber College commercial music and jazz
performance program and has now released his first instrumental
jazz C.D entitled “In the Pocket”. Allan is progressively
reaching new heights and this promising development is what
makes him a definite talent, indeed, one of a kind.
Powerful, passionate, uplifting, and inspiring. The sounds
and music of Allan have left audiences with these immeasurable
impressions. What makes Allan so exceptional? It is his
expressive and thoughtful playing style. He has incorporated
many different tones and colours that encompass a wide spectrum
of mentors and artists. From the raw edge and versatility
of John Coltrane, the soothing sound of Kenny G, and melodic
articulation of Sonny Rollins. Allan continues to enlighten
people through his thought-provoking music.
