CHAPTER 7, HotBot
HotBot was created in 1996. A joint venture between Wired Digital (creators of Wired magazine) and Inktomi. It was acquired byin 1998 by the company that owns Lycos.
Inktomi comes from an Lakota Indian legend about a spider. HotBot, AOL search, and MSN search use the Inktomi database.

( no searching ) 14 subject catagories operated by the
Open Directory Project (www.dmoz.org) it is similar to
the one used by Yahoo.
