HOTBOT QUICK REFERENCE
for this type of searchdo this:
Plain- english question Simply type the question in the search form and select 'all the words' from the search form's 'look for' menu.
Phrase Search Type the phrase with or w/o qoutes and select 'exact phrase' from the search form's 'look for' menu. To look for multiple phrases, or a phrase and a single word, put the phrase in qoutes and select 'all the words' from the search form's 'look for' menu.
AND search type in words and/or phrases and select 'all the words' from the search form's 'look for' menu. You can use a (+) plus sign in front of each word but it's not required
OR search type words or phrases seperated by spaces and select 'any of the words' from the search form's 'look for' menu. Alternatively you can use OR and chose 'boolean phrase' for the menu.
NOT searchuse a minus(-) sign directly in front of the word or phrase you want to exclude. or use NOT and chose 'boolean phrase'
case sesitive search use lowercase to find any combination of lower case and uppercase. Use capital letters(initial or combination of lc and uc to force and exact match
date searchUse the date menu on the hotbot home page to select a time frame (1 wk to 2 yrs) Alternatively you can use the date meta words 'after:', 'before:', or 'within:' in your query.
field search (web page titles) Use the 'look for' menu on the hotbot home page to specify you want to search 'the page title'.
or you can use the 'meta word 'title:' in your query.
field search (geography, domain, or domain type) Use the 'meta word 'domain:' in your query.
field search (multimedia) Use the 'pages must contain' section on the hotbot home page to look for image, video, MP3, or JavaScript files.
or you can use the 'meta word 'feature:' in your query.
nested search use parentheses to group and select 'boolean phrase' from the 'look for' menu
proximity search n/a
wildcard searchuse an (*)asterisk at the beginning, middle, or end of a word
Use a question mark (?) to match a single character n/a
