Slime Sports Crash team Racing Final Fantasy Angband
|
Slime Sports are a series of simple 1-4 player games based around various sports. The simplicity of play is the key element, and combined with the high level of skill need to master them, they make for very addicting games. Slime Volleyball was the original Slime game, and is the most simplistic, yet still requires skill and practice to master. Slime Soccer is another staple, and there are other sports, including variations of the volleyball game.

Crash Team Racing is a kart racing game on the PlayStation, and while it may not have been the first, I think it was definitely the best, better even than Mario Kart 64! It is based on the Crash Bandicoot games, and most Characters are from previous games, but there are a few new ones. There is a large range of tracks, suiting all styles of racing. There are different modes of play, including singles and multiplayer.
Modes
Adventure - This is the 1 player quest to beat Nitrous Oxide. It involves winning races, cups and beating bosses. This is how to unlock characters, to it is recommended that you play through this to the end as it is not too hard.
Time Trial - This is the only way to unlock N Tropy, which is well worth it. Simply race round the tracks as fast as you can, but you are not allowed to use any weapons! This is good to hone your abilities on each track, because there are no other racers or weapons to provide distractions.
Arcade - This allows you to race against computer controlled cars, with or without a friend. This is good to have some fun, without getting too competitive.
Versus - In this, you can race against your friends, which is always good for a laugh.
Battle - This pits you against your friends in a special arena, and using weapons, you have to destroy your friends, and avoid being destroyed!
Characters
To start off with, there are 8 racers available, I find that for beginners Crash or Cortex is best, but for advanced players Tiny or Dingodile is best, as they require more skill to use properly, but provide better results. However for some tracks it is best to use a different one, to provide more agility! Once you progress in the adventure game, and unlock more characters, Papu Papu becomes the best one in my opinion, joint with N Tropy. If anyone knows how to unlock Nitrous Oxide please contact me. I have beaten him on all time trials and in adventure mode, but all I got was the scrapbook.
Tracks
These range from the very short to the very long, the very easy to the very hard. There are short cuts on most tracks, it is just a matter of finding them. I think that the best ones are Papu's Pyramid, Cortex Castle and Sewer Speedway. These all have short cuts, which, once mastered, will give much on the enjoyment scale.
Tips
Power Sliding is the most important skill in the game, and if you can use it effectively, it is even better than having weapons. First off, the basic powerslide, while moving press and hold R1, then press L1 to get a boost, then again and again. Once this has been mastered, and you can get three boosts from each powerslide, then it's time to move on. When going over a ramp or over a jump, you can get a boost by pressing R1 just as you go over the top. You should jump up in the air, then as you land, depending on how big the jump was, you will get a big boost or a small boost. However it is much better to get three boosts than one, so if you have to jump around a corner, then you should powerslide round it and not jump. Really, you should just experiment, and find out the best way for you. Using these techniques, tracks like Tiny Arena become a lot easier.
All in all, this is an excellent game, one of my all time favourites, and I would recommend it to YOU!
This is a tribute to what I believe to be some of the greatest games ever made.
I first played Final Fantasy 7 for half an hour, with no memory card and very little idea what I was doing. However, I liked it enough that I requested a PlayStation for Christmas, and Purchased Fifa 99 and Final Fantasy 7. This was the beginning of a journey, that would take me to places only ever dreamed about......
A couple of days after it was released, I purchased FF8, and finished it within a month or so. I think this has a better gameplay system, but a worse plot than FF7.
FINAL FANTASY 7
My first few days playing on this were frustrated by the Scorpion Boss, until I figured out how to use potions, then I beat him down with BRAVER. Man those limit breaks are good. I continued playing, in awe of the detail, and finally I exited Midgar, after trashing the ShinRa offices, heh. I should mention I only found out how to use Materia after the two Boss Battles in the lift. I skipped the help at the start, do'h. I headed off for Kalm, and after a lengthy flashback, I chose Cloud Barret and Tifa, and set off in search of the Black Caped man. I managed to complete the game, after a few months of playing.
On my last adventure, I have collected almost every item, got every limit break, got almost every materia and weapon in the game, and beat all Weapon bosses.
Because my characters were so good, the game was really easy, I only got killed a few times. The hardest boss was Emerald weapon. Ruby was easy, as I just used Hades and KOTR in W-summon, which stopped it, then killed it. Heh. hades didn't work against Emerald though, so I had to use KOTR twice. I then mimed it with my two other characters.
I owe this to using the guide of Kao Megura, which is the best I have ever seen, and I would recommend them to everyone who has beaten the game at least twice. I felt it was okay to use this guide, as I had already beaten the game about four times, and wanted to do an 'ultimate' adventure!!
I have started again! Yes that's right I have been playing for quite a few weeks now, and have performed a few amazing feats. I got limit breaks very quickly, I got Cloud's Cllimhazzard before I got to the Midgar Zolom swamp. Incidentally, I killed the Midgar Zolom first time round, it was quite hard, but I did it! I got Aeris's Ultimate Limit Break and used it, truly is great. I was able to beat the battle arena a few times, so I got Omnislash on disc 1, which is an accomplishment I am really pleased with. I mastered my first materia on disc 1, it the Transform one that Cait Sith comes equipped with. I sold it and now I have far too much gil! I have mastered five characters limit break so far, getting all level 1, 2 and 3 ones, plus the level 4 one. These characters are, in order, Aeris, Cloud, Yuffie, Red XIII and Barret. No bosses have caused me much hassle so far, even the two headed dragon (Schizo) at the top of the of the Cliff, and the Carry Armour in the underwater reactor, even though they normally cause me a lot of problems. I've got a gold chocobo now and two Master Command, Master Magic and Master Summon Materia. I've almost got another set of them as well. I've also been getting stuff like Magic Plus, Speed Plus, Luck Plus, and counter attack mastered. I am now on the third disc, having beaten both Ruby and Emerald Weapon. When I have finished, all characters will have : Master Command, Magic and Summon materia, 4Xcut, HP plus, MP plus, 3XSpeed plus, Magic Plus, Luck Plus, Final Attack linked to Revive. Additionally I will have Enemy Skill with all skills on two people, and then odd things like Mega All, Quadra Magic on one or two people. Where Possible these will all be mastered. I have a ribbon on two people, soon to be three. I have finished it, and it was very easy, Safer Sephirith took me about 4 attack to kill him.
FINAL FANTASY 8
On my first adventure on the epic journey, my players were really bad. I knew how to junction, but not properly, so as a result, my stats were really low, and in the end I could not beat Sorceress Adel, so I had to give up. On my next two attempts, I finished the game both times, with average players, and beating Ultima Weapon.
The last time I beat this game, I did not level up my characters if I could help it, until disc 3. Then, before I went into Lunatic Pandora, I got Str Bonus, Vit bonus, Mag bonus and Spr Bonus. As I had them all on Jumbo Cactuar, and accumulated on four other GFs, I could level up two characters at the same time. So level 10 Squall and Quistis were chosen, and I set them to wotk on first the plains of Esthar, then the Island Closest to Hell. Once this was done, I did Irvine and Zell. I had by now collected all Ultimate Weapons, almost all Limit Breaks (I was still missing a few Quistis blue magic) and all GFs. I had most of the cards, the only missing one was Laguna! I had killed Ultima Weapon, and so I had nothing left to do but enter Lunatic Pandora.
I was confident, and excited, as I found the 'Bosses' in the castle to be a two hit kill, with no more than a few hundred damage to me. Let me explain. As a result of my strategic levelling up, and then using Str, Vit, Spr + 60%, Squall, Quistis and Zell were virtually undefeatable. I say virtually, because after beating all bosses, I decided to tackle the great-granddaddy of all bosses, Omega Weapon. I could have killed him easily with an Aura-Renzokuken-Duel repeated, but I decided to take the hard way, and use no limit breaks. I thought that because of my 250 Spr and Vit, Terra Break would not do the normal 15 000 damage to each player. It did. So I restarted, and used Holy War, and had everyone rain down with triple meteor, after at least half an hour of continuous attacking, he finally crumbled, and I recieved.... a piece of paper about Omega Weapon. Do'h. Anyway, I went and fought Ultimecia, and a Meltdown followed by a few normal attacks finished all four stages off. heh, even when 'Apocalypse' did only about 500 damage, when it normally does about 7 000! I sat back and watched the end cut scene, and felt good...heh.
I used a guide for this last adventure, and as soon as I find it again I will credit the author. Like FF7, I felt I had to do an 'ultimate' adventure, after my few average ones.
Angband is a overhead view 2d dungeon adventure, loosely based on Tolkein's The Lord Of The Rings. My favourite variant is ZAngband, although I also like ToME.
Here is a flash animation I made of a typical sequence in Angband
On a previous adventure, on ZAngband, I have finished it for the first time ever!!!
The object of the game is to kill Morgoth at the bottom of the Pits of Angband.
There are many different varieties of character and class. To start with, you can choose a race. These range from Human, Elf, Dwarf, and a few others. Once that is done, you then choose a class, anything from warrior, mage, priest, or a few others. A few more options, and you're on your way. At the start, you only have a few possesions, determined by your race and class.
You must travel down a few levels into the dungeon, then return to the town, to restock on supplies. As you progress, you will find that you obtain better equipment. You may even find some unique artifacts, which are usually much better than normal equipment.
On some varients, you may wish to attempt some quests, which can be found at the main building in each town, such as the mayors house, or the castle. These reap big rewards, if you can complete them.
On ToME, after completing the Barrow Downs, Mirkwood and the land of Mordor, you can start the final leg of your quest. You must enter the Pits of Angband, and descend. Once you reach level 99, Sauron will try to stop you proceeding. If you defeat him, you may enter dungeon level 100 and try to kill Morgoth. After this your are a ***WINNER*** and may either quit victoriously, or carry on in the hope of finding every artifact and defeating every monster. Quite a tough challenge.
An automatic Angband player is obtainable at Thangorodim that plays considerably better than I can play, and plays about 20 times faster as well. Therefore it can complete the game (getting most artifacts and killing all unique monsters) in about 24 hours!!!
You can download Angband and the other varients from Thangorodrim
