Paul B. Perrigo’s story as to how his
grandfather, Luther [282] came to Michigan is
interesting. Not liking it in New York, Luther left his
family
to migrate to Michigan where he found a
Michigander who dissatisfied and wanting
to return to New York. A swap was made on the spot with
no money changing hands. Luther wrote his family to leave
everything
(the house and its content.) and come to
Burnips, in Allegan Co. where he had acquired
a general store, and apply - drying business. He soon got
the notion to bring his wares to
the farmers by horse and wagon; making
the rounds with medicines and other necessities. From
this grew the Perrigo Drug Co. which
today is one of the nations largest pharmaceutical firms
in America.
