What happened to August, September, October...etc. of '04 you ask? Good question. Life just went on without documentation. And the sad thing is, I can't even remember what happened! A few highights between then and now include my 40th b.day dessert party, adopting Hoops (she'll probably have her own page soon), buying a new Mini Cooper (!) in yellow with white racing stripes, house updates, a trip to Edisto in April and, most recently, a new (used) iMac!

I'll try updating again soon...I just have to remember how to do this html stuff!

May & June '05...more or less

Other Thots and Happenings...
At this juncture, we've been working on the gardens (pics coming soon!) and I have new windows on my porch and a new fence in the back yard. All waiting to be documented!

Here's how the canoe garden is looking so far, with new fence in the background. And these are my new sliding glass/screen porch windows. Next will be new tile I think.

As for birthdays...

Lenore artfully blows out candles without blowing her #45 Hot Wheels car off the cake
(carrot, of course).
A close-up of the cake -- it was yummy if I do say so myself.

As noted above, I adopted Hoops, and also, all her kittens were adopted. But I'll keep the pictures up cuz they are so cute. Frank lives next door to Lenore on one side, Tommy on the other. I don't think they get together much though. Sasha was adopted by Lenore's neighbor's niece.

Later That Same Weekend...

Triathlon Report 05
6/12/05
Naperville, IL

This years Reebock Womens Triathlon in Naperville raised $75,000 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund -- wahoo! Lenore swam, biked and ran a great race, improving her time 5:15 from last year.

This is a fun event because there are about 2,000 women who compete, and theyre all shapes, ages and sizes. Its heartening to hear husbands, partners, kids and parents cheering on their athletes. I especially liked hearing kids yell, "Cmon Grandma you can do it!" It just makes me smile.

Like prior years, theres an amazing array of women and equipment. Bikes in particular ranged from state-of-the-art racing bikes with the disk wheel thingees (see photo below) to trusty Schwinns complete with baskets and horns.

There was also a range of idiots and heroes in the crowd. Like the Bozos who kept crossing the street with dogs and strollers and getting in the way of racers. Did we forget how to look both ways, people?! But they were offset by the young man who saved the day for a biker whose chain fell off right out of the gate. He dashed over and snick! snapped it back into place and dashed back to the curb in about 1.3 seconds. He may or may not have lost a finger in the process, but he got a round of applause from onlookers.

Start of the swim

The bike dismounts this year were much tamer. No one even flipped. Mounting up, however, seemed to pose an unusual challenge. Several lane cones bit the dust and one finish line judge almost lost a leg as women swerved all willy nilly rushing to get their feet clipped into pedals. Sheesh.

Lastly, I must comment on body jewelry. Belly button hardware in particular was big. One woman also wore huge hoop earrings (how would you swim with those?!). As far as outfits, Ill just say this was not a modest crowd, and not much was left to the imagination. Especially when wet. Nuf said.

But back to Lenoreshe kicked butt in the swim, pulling into third place and staying there for as long as I could pick out her little bobbing red swim cap. Its good to be a strong swimmer in these things because the mass of bodies and flailing limbs in the thick of things is kind of scary. As it was, one chick kept swimming all over Lenore for practically the whole race. I almost had to call "my people."

I ran over to the swim out (if thats what its called) to see Lenore make her way into the transition area for the bike portion. Then I hurried over to the bike-out (which was also the bike-in spot). I thought Id try taking a little movie at this point, and its pretty comical. I need to work on my panning skills I overshot Lenore and had to pan back to find her. Oops! Oh well, youll still get the idea! I got her coming in too, but it wasnt much smoother. Then, on the run out, she ran right toward me so it washere comes Lenoretheres her noseand now shes gone. Im sure itll look much better once its set to, say, Chariots of Fire music though.

I should add that all of these accounts were mentally and/or digitally recorded well before 8 a.m. We got up at 5. On a Sunday. Thankfully, this is just once a year!

A Movie!
I made a movie, but it's too big to upload.
If you want to see it, send me an e-mail and I'll send you this 9MB file, which got two thumbs up from...um...my mom.

Well put a link to official race results and photos soon!
