A Vacation Recap
So, this entry is a little late due to the inevitable backlog of critical but often mundane stuff you have to do after an even brief vacation. Stuff like laundry, reorienting yourself to your desk at work (where did all this crap come from?!) and catching up on my web page class. I am going to be creating a web page for an imaginary restaurant, links coming soon! At this juncture, I have decided it will be a coffee house/cafe called Votives. Itll be quaint, cozy and billed as a womens space of sorts. A place for chicks to hang out, meet, and be entertained or enlightened without the smoke and alcohol-induced drama of a bar. Well be booking all kinds of great entertainment, including appearances by Ellen, the Indigo Girls, Rosie...just to name a few. Thats the beauty of an imaginary business. :-)
But I digress...
The vacation recap is as follows. It started with a stop in Savannah to visit Tommy, Sandy and little T. Tommy took Thursday off and hung out with us all day. We went to Bonaventure Cemetery, had lunch downtown and wandered around the historic district looking at architecture and taking the odd photo now and then.

Tommy saves me from the tourist-eating Azalias. One of the many haunting views at Bonaventure Cemetery.
Friday Tommy drove us to Beuford (sp?), which is the half-way point to Edisto Beach, and Lenores dad picked us up. That evening we saw the play he directed (A Bad Year for Tomatoes), which was cute, and made plans for shark tooth hunting, bike rides, bird watching and swinging. It was arduous work, but well worth the effort. Here are my
Savannah/Edisto Memorial Highlights, March 2004
In no particular order...
- Succeeding (I think) in not letting my face get a frightened look when Lenores dad urged us to save the furry bagels for him because, "mold doesnt bother me."
- Perhaps not succeeding in not letting my face get a frightened look when Lenore discovered her dad had thrown out the thermos of coffee she had JUST made. Eek.
- Trying the new Buzz Lightyear toy in the presence of Little T and seeing him smile.
- Black bean lasagna.
- Hypnotizing a Dalmatian into believing it was OK to sit on the couch.
- Listening to Wayne (who we had just met) explain to Lenores dad at the dinner table that, while he enjoys sharing the stage with other musicians, its usually easier just to go solo, to which I rudely chimed in "so what hes saying is he likes to play with himself." Nothing like making a great first impression.
- Finding such clean, high-tech porta potties in Bonaventure cemetery
- Wondering out loud where Clay Aikens grave was (I meant Conrad Aiken. Really.).
- Walking past Johnny Mercers grave about three times before fortuitously discovering it.
- Finding a BIG sharks tooth within the first five minutes of our first day of looking.
- Finding a teeny tiny sharks tooth after about an hour of fruitless searching...and then finding another one right after that one.
- Watching from the vantage point of a hammock several birds, including a pelican, circle overhead.
- Finally getting to eat that damn Vidalia onion pie.
- Finding out the special meaning that turkey holds in the play.
- Standing in the Azaleas with Tommy.
- Potting tomato plants while enjoying a grand view and my feet in the sun.
- An unlimited supply of coffee and bananas.
- Looking at stars and hearing the ocean at night.
- A three-pie dinner.
- The smell of pine straw and leaves while biking under Spanish moss-covered trees.
- A relaxing day wandering through the historic district of Savannah.
- Rosemary bread.
- Buying the last box of Chai tea in that really cool health food store.
- Swinging on the pier swing and watching the sunset after a bike ride.
- Eating lunch while watching birds.
- Not buying another t-shirt even though they were only five bucks.
- Telling Lenore I was going to pay the musician to take a break and then having her take one...for FREE!
- Watching Little T. eat and eat and eat at The Lady and Sons.
- Letting the hermit crab have his house even though it was a very cool shell.
- More rosemary bread.
What About Movies?
Well, I just have not had time to see any movies lately. Any "screen time" has been spent trying to catch up on Angel. Also, I'm just a little addicted to the Food Channel. My favorite shows at the moment are Good Eats and The Naked Chef (it's not what you think). I'm thinking I might need to get Tivo. How scary is that?
But Speaking of Movies
I am SO psyched for the new Spiderman movie!
Hey, what happened to April?!
Wow, how did all those days just fly by? It would be understandable if I had something fascinating to report. But I don't. As far as non fascinating things go...I can't really remember. I guess it's time to switch to May.
