Happy May Day
I'm wracking my brain trying to remember what has been happening in the past few weeks. A couple of highlights that come to mind include attending a fundraiser/silent auction with Lenore, Linda, Kelly and Linda, and many others for Stonewall. Our only "win" was a mood ring Lenore bid on for me. We also took Sabine shopping for her birthday. She was in the market for some exotic jewelry and maybe a box to put things in. She is eight and therefore "more into elegant things now." 'Nuf said. We went to Target and Michaels, and, as an added bonus, there were free bead workshops going on at Michaels, so we made about seven bracelets! I think the demonstrators were happy for the action. I was supposed to report for jury duty this week, but managed to get it postponed to the end of the month so I could complete my Karate class. I am the proud owner of a lovely yellow belt now in Shotokan Karate. It's much prettier than the brown one from the Isshinryu class, but the brown one involved much more work and injury, so I love them both.

Here are a couple of pictures from promotion day

Here we have a Shotokan block (palm out) with an Isshinryu fist. Oh well! This style has very deep, wide stances, which I had a lot of trouble remembering!

Happy Mother's Day
The weekend report includes a plethora of pizza, homemade in a healthy way, for Mother's Day. Roland and Amy joined us for the party. My kitchen is still in recovery. Dough was *everywhere,* but in a good way. I made a batch in the bread machine, a batch the old-fashioned way, plus we had a couple of Boboli things for backup. It all turned out grand accompanied with asparagus and mixed berry shortcakes for dessert. Besides cutting my grass and vacuuming, Lenore provided nonstop kitchen help in cutting up all the veggies and helping greatly with cleanup.

The Week of Blah
I couldn't think of any other way to describe this week, because it's been so dull and slow. It has been raining every damn day...but its also muggy -- my house is feeling quite spongy as of late. Lenore was in South Bend most of the week, so I had no one to play with. Except yesterday (Thurs.) she got home, so I stopped over for a walk and some Thai food, which we picked up JUST before the skies opened up. It was a major downpour, which only added to the worry that I was about to run out of gas. Turns out my car manual booklet thingee makes no mention of exactly (or even approximately) how many gallons I have left when the cheerful orange warning light goes on. The upshot was I had to pull in to a station that was selling gas for $2.20-something per gallon! Such is life...at least the food didn't get cold. I am now on a hunt for a curry sauce recipe (maybe with low-fat coconut milk though?), because I am so hooked on this stuff. The prospect of today's leftovers (mild curry with beef, peas, & potatoes over rice, mmmm) had me excited all morning. It was all I could do to stop myself from doing the Snoopy suppertime dance. Also, it's Friday, which is a very good thing.

Bikes... This weekend is our (the depot's) 6th annual bike swap. Each year we wonder if it'll be our last, but we persist. We usually only make a couple hundred bucks, but it's fun and keeps those unwanted bikes out of the river I guess.
