Become an Auxiliary/Reserve Police Officer

Are you an adult who always wanted to be a police officer,
but instead chose another career? Do you want to become a police
officer, but don't want to do the job full-time? If you answer yes to
either of these questions, I recommend that you become an auxiliary/reserve
police officer.
Many police and sheriff's departments allow citizens to
become volunteer officers, in order to assist sworn police officers perform
their daily tasks. Some departments call their volunteer officers
"auxiliary police officers," and others call them "reserve officers."
These volunteers perform duties such as directing traffic, providing crowd
control, issuing parking tickets, and many others in order to make sworn
police officers free to answer emergency calls for service. This group
of volunteers usually drive marked vehicles such as the one above, and in
some areas drive the same patrol cars that paid police officers use.
If you are interested in serving your community as a
volunteer police officer, contact your local law enforcement agency to find
out more information. These men and women save their communities
countless amounts of time and money, while performing some of the most
rewarding tasks a person could ever hope to do.
