Become a Police Explorer
The police explorer program
is for young people between the age of 14 and 21 years old who are
interested in police work. It is a program of the Boy Scouts of
America, which is run completely by law enforcement agencies. All
activities are police related, and intended to give members a greater
appreciation for law enforcement.
Members must maintain a
minimum C average in high school in order to participate in the program.
After completing a 3 month probationary period, explorers are given a
uniform and the chance to go on ride-alongs with officers after passing a
ride-along test. Explorer meetings are usually held twice a month at a
local police station.
Police explorer posts are
located all over the United States, and most police departments have a post.
If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming an explorer, contact
your local law enforcement agency to see if they participate in this program
and find out how you can become a member. It is an excellent program
and is great for preparing future police officer candidates for a very
rewarding and exciting career.
The following picture was taken at Law Enforcement Day,
which was organized by the Military and Police Interest club of Calvert Hall
College. In this event of the day, explorer posts from various
Maryland police agencies competed against each other to win an award for
traffic stop procedures.
