Who We Are

July News at Peter's Creek

Greeting to all from all of us here at Peter’s Creek. Summer is in full swing with many activities within the church and our community. Some projects are winding down while, with God’s graciousness, others are beginning to move in full motion.

We have started numerous mission projects that will show others that we are about our Father’s business in sharing the gospel in word and deed. Barbara Crider is our Mission’s Coordinator and has found projects that will help those who are in need for the upcoming season. A beautiful pieced quilt has been designed by the women of the church with Karen McGuire assembling each section with such wondrous care that will be auctioned at the Carmi Children’s Home Open House in September.

Corinna Hall has brought to our attention the special needs in the Appalachian Mountains where we have been collecting clothes, household items and various things that will help the different missions that operate in that region. Plans are being made to take a shipment in August so the citizens of that region will be able to be ready for school and the oncoming winter weather. Any church or person wishing to help in this mission project, please contact us here at the church and we will let you know how you can help in the worthwhile project.

Members have been collecting items that will help the international students that will attend Southern Illinois University as a welcome basket to be distributed by the Baptist Union on the college grounds. Sis. Judy has provided the information about this mission project and she encourages all churches to help by participating to reach those who come to this country to study. Who knows how God will bless them with the gifts at will be given that maybe the “door of opportunity” to reaching a lost soul.

Once again, we are collecting school supplies for the Carmi Children’s Home. This will help with the upcoming school year and those who will be attending. The box is beginning to become filled with numerous items that have been so graciously given.

On July 11th, our sanctuary was filled with youth from Fellowship Baptist in Vienna, IL. They gave God the glory in all they did with the different activities that they presented- puppets, interpretive movement to contemporary songs, testimonies, worship praise choruses, and even an uplifting witness from a summer missionary who spent time in Greece preparing the way for the Olympic Games. This amazing group of youth is scheduled to go to the Upper Peninsula to be a part of witnessing and sharing of the gospel to those there. What an uplifting evening that has inspired our church in spreading the word to those in our community and other areas even more than we have ever before. God’s will be done in everything that we are striving to accomplish for Him here and the other places that needs are being met.

Three women took part in WMU Retreat at Hillcrest Camp on July 16-17. The spirit of the Lord was surely in that place as the ladies gathered to share and to learn more about becoming a closer walking Christian and to grow in our daily walk with Him. We have all come away closer to Him for the opportunity of the retreat. We thank the ladies of Big Saline Association for their invitation for it would not have been possible to accomplish without their driving force and willingness to share with all of those in attendance. What a wonderful time in the Lord!

Our hearts are sorrowed to hear about the recent passing of Kristin Lynn Smith, granddaughter of Loree Colver. May the Comforter console the family during this trying time.

During our recent Sunday School enrollment challenge, the Adult Women’s Class came away the winner! Yes, who says that Sunday School is only for younger people, these women went out, searched and BROUGHT IN new members for their class. The reward that they have received in an afternoon of dining at the River Port in Golconda. Congratulations to one and all in Sis. Judy’s class.
On July 31st, we are hosting a luncheon to honor the new Director of Mission, Dr. John Rogers. He has been doing so much in promoting the camp, visiting the churches and filling in everywhere he is needed (and we all know how much that is a job in itself!) We cordially invite each pastor, their wives and each church member to attend and welcome him into the “fold”. He has an enormous job ahead of him but with the grace of God, we are sure that all this are truly possible.
“The Lord ia nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him is truth. He will fulfill the desire of then that fear Him: He also will hear their cry, and will save them.” Psalm 145:18.
