The most common types of pets found in rescue groups and shelters are dogs and cats. This does not mean that other types can't be found, though, with a little effort. There are rescue groups that specialize in the following animals, and many that take in whatever is in need.
One of our goals is to encourage people to research specific pets BEFORE adopting to make sure they'll fit into your lifestyle. Use this page as a starting point for that research. Also, read books, talk to other people who own that type of pet and talk to veterinarians for more information. Deciding to add a pet to your home is an important and lifelong commitment.
