This page is the Third Step of our Learning Portuguese. We will be learning the verb To Be (Ser ou Estar). We will learn the different situations that we use this verb. In the Portuguese language we have the Permanent and Transient form of this verb. It will be easy.

Os Pronomes Pessoais
(The Personal Pronouns)

    Eu - I
    Tu or Você - You (one person)
    Ele - He
    Ele - She
    Nós - We
    Vós or Vocês - You (many persons)
    Eles - They (masculine)
    Elas - They (feminine)

    Note:
      Tu and Vós are informal (used to address a family member or a friend)
      Você and Vocês are formal (used to address someone older)



O Presente dos verbos Ser e Estar
(The Present Tense of the verb To Be)

    O verbo Ser (The verb To Be)
    (permanent form)
    Eu sou
    Tu és
    Ele/Ela é
    Nós somos
    Vós sois
    Eles/Elas são
                 O verbo Estar (The verb To Be)
    (transient form)
    Eu estou
    Tu estás
    Ele/Ela está
    Nós estamos
    Vós estais
    Eles/Elas estão


    Examples:
        Eu sou Português - I am Portuguese (permanent form)
        Ela é bonita - She is pretty (permanent form)
        A mesa está suja - The table is dirty (transient form)
        O carro está parado - The car is parked (transient form)
