Mexico 1 - Cozumel & Tulum
Casapagina
After spending a couple of days enjoying the comforts of Playa Del Carmen we headed across the channel to Cozumel.  It's an island famous for it's reefs and spectacular dive and snorkel sites.  We discovered it also has the right to claim some beautiful, wild and largely uncrowded (relative to Playa) beaches.
Despite the fact our licences were stolen with the rest of our gear we rented a scooter and headed to the wild west end where there are almost no hotels and the beaches are wild.  The guy informed us that should we be stopped by the police we should decry the inequity of stopping a couple of tourists who have spent a lot of money in Mexico, slip the cop 50 pesos (5USD) and be on our way - "It's Mexico man, I think you'd say corruption".
Chappy really liked the west side, especially this spot.
You can't go to Cozumel and not see the reefs.  We took a trip out and saw the gold medal spots called Palancar Reef and Columbia shallows. That was our guide, Guiermo in his funny hat.
The boat ride was good too.
Tulum...
In Tulum we again found what we came to Mexico for, miles of white sand beaches.  This was our second accomodation, with a private beach.
We hiked with some friends we met up with in Playa Del Carmen along the beach to the ruins of Tulum.
As Tulum served as a port for the Mayans the ruins are impressive for their setting right on the cliffs of the carribean.  Now it serves as a draw for thousands of tourists who usually go for a dip below.  (All those little back things in the water are people)
To avoid the crowds we decided to hoist our day packs and wade around the cliffs back to the beach, good times.
Once safely back at Diamante K we settled back into our chairs at the bar for some backgammon and beers.  That's Kerri (aka Kezza - NZ) on the left and Stephan (aka Stiffler - AUS) on the right.
More Mexico, I wanna see some Playas!
