Guatemala 2 - Lago De Atitlan & Tikal
Casapagina
From Chichi we headed to Lago de Atitlan in the Guatemalan Highlands.  It too is surrounded by 3 volcanoes and is, in fact, a sunken volcano crater that over thousands of years was filled with crystal clear water.  It provided us with a beautiful spot to relax, swim and hike for a couple of days at what has to be one of the coolest hostels anywhere.
Chappy checks out the view from our private balcony after we arrive.
We decided we'd have breakfast on our private balcony, as one does.

Goooo Broncos!
Jumping off stuff.

Chappy also made this leap the next day, very brave.
He's okay folks.
La Casa Del Mundo.  That was our room with the open door and the yellow towel hanging out on the railing. Down below you can see where we leapt from into the swimming hole.
Guate is also famous for it's Chicken Buses.  They're all old bluebird school buses, repainted and in most cases outlandishly decorated.  There's a little man who slings packs and cargo onto the roof and when they get too crowded, which they always do as they cram 3 to a bench seat meant for 2 fourth graders, he climbs over the roof and swings in the back emergency exit to collect the fares.  It's an impressive operation.  Our little man (in the red had) is stoked to get the fares going from the lake town of Panajachel to Chimaltenango.
We were lucky enough to have real live chickens next to us (at no extra charge).
Tikal...
We overnighted it on a bus to Tikal.  Rising above the canopy in the middle of the steamy Guatemalan jungle it is considered perhaps the most stunning of the Mayan city states.  I would agree.
The east temple of the Grand Plaza.
This was taken from the top of Temple IV, the highest of the temples at the site, you can see the temples of the Grand Plaza looking east where the sun rises.
That's me way at the top of the Lost World temple.
I wanna go to North America...Mexico 1!
Let's see Pat in a Hat again, Guate 1
