| Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the number one killer of adults in the western world, being responsible for nearly 50% of all adult deaths. However, 40% of individuals with CAD do not demonstrate the classical risk factors such as smoking, obesity, diabetes, hypertension and the male gender. Research is underway to indentify new risk factors that may put unknowing adults at risk for future coronary events. Two such factors will be discussed on this web site: homocysteine and "dysglycemia". NEW!!! Read a paper about how second-hand cigarette smoke causes coronary artery disease here. |
