The Mississippi School of English was born in February 1995 when I decided that I wanted to be able to teach without any of the restrictions that I had encountered at other jobs.  I began with only 30 students and one teacher (myself) and have now built the school to about 120 students with 4 teachers, Myself, Peter, Olivia, and Pete.  

Here at the MS School of English we pride ourselves on our small family business atmosphere and open relations with our students.  I have always believed that the educational process is greatly enhanced when students feel comfortable in their environment and are motivated to learn.  For this we try to keep a good relationship with our students through small classes (never more than 6), parties (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and numerous pot lucks), and running tours to America once a year to challenge our students English ability. On our last tour we took 9 children to two elementary schools in MS to allow them to practice in a completely native English environment.  Aside from the mosquitoes (LOL) everyone had a wonderful experience.  One last service that we offer is that we encourage our children to take the English Ability exam offered by the Japanese Government (EIKEN) and host the exam at our school.  

We also pride ourselves on our teachers' ability.  I have a Master's Degree and over 8 years experience teaching, Peter has a teaching certificate and 5 years experience, Pete has been teaching in Japan on and off for about 6 years, and Olivia is a Harvard graduate with a teaching certificate and one year's experience.  With a commitment to dedication we work hard to see our students improve.

In terms of tuition we are one of the cheaper schools around.  We can do this because we do not have a large corporate structure to support.  This lack of overhead is reflected in the low fees we charge. Without any admission fee our students may study for one month for only 6,000 yen.  This is paid on a monthly basis, not a yearly basis with no refund as some of the larger schools do.  I am a family man and member of this community and could never feel right about myself if I followed some of the business practices I have seen at the English Language Schools.  However to me this is good business.  Our goal is to build long term lasting relationships with our students, and my feeling is that to have a good name in your community is crucial to the success of a business such as ours.
