Hello everyone,
Last issue featured Kausalya's article on the the Marathi play "Maha Nirvan' staged in Tamil. This issue features her article 'The tillana glitter is intact' on Padmini, star of yesteryears. I understand that this article received a lot of fan mail. Prasad is brilliant as usual. This is what he says about his piece for this Newsletter - Athimber:Here's my contribution. It has a Carnatic theme, because when I first thought of it, I intended for it to be a sort of a tribute to your book.
Aarthi is back with Once upon a time. Mukund continues with the second part of his interesting piece 'My Culinary Journey'. He has also sent a collection of photos from his Visit to Europe. Nitya has sent a collection of photos of Raghu's Grahapravesam in Sydney. You would have already read the articles on Gopalan by me, Raghu (my brother), Amritha and Kannan. I have written a piece titled '9/11 and after' which is about the reactions to my book.
All the usual features, viz. My diary for 15th August to &
15th October 2004 , Crossword Clues and Cryptoquip. are there. I have also included the Javascript Game TIC TAC TOE, which you can play with the computer.
'FROM THE NET' contains Fresh Potato Juice which is a piece sent to me in one of the e-groups where I'm member. I am reproducing it with a disclaimer that I am not responsible for any side-effects that Potato juice-drinking may cause. This section also contains two other interesting pieces -'Double Standards', the famous speech by Dr. Abdul Kalaam (sent by Aarthi) and 'Nineteen Commandments '
Let me again remind everyone about the Archives www.geocities.com/pamrithaarchives, which is a comprehensive authorwise, subjectwise and monthwise archives. The first feature, as

| MY DIARY FROM 16th August to 15th October 2004
The biggest news for August was that I completed my book(s) and gave them for printing after receiving the cover design from Aarthi. What started initially as a 100-page or so book turned out to be a 600-page book in two volumes with a CD-ROM containing over 1 GB of information.
Chandra was here in August off and on, but we managed to take her to beach, hotel, cinema, concert and temple.
September 2004 would be an unforgettable month for us. We had our mother's first annual ceremony from 4th - 7th which was performed diligently and sincerely by Gopalan. 11th September was when my book was released in the presence of T.N.Seshagopalan, Dr. Prameela and Rajiv Menon. The planning which went into the function paid off and nothing went wrong (Well, almost nothing. The kuthuvilakku started burning like a bonfire and had to be removed outside). Urmila compered very well, the prayer song was good, T.N.Seshagopalan's speech was good, Dr. Prameela's was better and Rajiv Menon's was the best. Harish came for the function by air from Pune with his friend. But Aarthi could not make it. Jaya TV showed a 1-minute clipping of the function in its morning News. The Press covered the function exhaustively and the book and CD have been received well. In fact we could not first meet the demand as Sudarshan had problems and only 100 copies were brought out initially. But we got the balance copies within a week and the book is selling reasonably well.
I left for Berlin on 19th September night on a 4-day visit as the head of a multi-disciplinary team from Indian Railways for the InnoTrans Trade Fair organised by Railways and Vendors in Europe. The previous day, we visited all close relatives to thank them, show the photos of the function and give them copies of my book. The Trade Fair at Berlin was excellent and we had a hectic three days and four nights till about 11.30 PM every day - visiting the Fair and holding discussions with a number of vendors, meeting the Indian Ambassador, being feted with lunch/dinner by Siemens, Bombardier and other companies, giving an interview to the English broadcast of Deutsce Welle (German Radio) and so on. But I was shattered by the news of Gopalan's death on Friday the 24th, which was the last day of my stay at Berlin. I decided to come back immediately as Friday was kept for sight-seeing and shopping for which I was in no mood.
The following week went in attending the religious rites of Gopalan which Mohan did with sincerity.
On October 4th HP (Harish Parthasarathy) joined HP (Hewlett Packard) at Bangalore. He came here for the weekend on 9th and 10th when we visited Vijaya, Usha and Mohan. We saw the movie 'Chellamey' with him, which was so-so.
I am an unique person as I am allergic to anti-allergic drugs like Avil, Incidol, Actifed etc. When I mentioned this to the doctor whom I consulted for my persisting cold, he said he'd prescribe a new drug. But my system recognised the drug and my face swelled up and pouches were formed under my eyes and I am confined to the house for the last two days, This has kept me confined to the house watching the second cricket test and making this Newsletter.
Bye till 16th December,
 16th October 2004
