Reader Reviews

I love this series

What a breath of fresh air! This is the start of an incredible saga set in a world of treachery and magic. Stanek is excellent at moving from one character to another, letting the reader see life through their eyes and getting to know their motives. At first you think that maybe one character is evil, but then when you get inside their head you find out that this may not be so. It all depends upon your point of view, and in Stanek's Ruin Mist, you get many points of view. His work is original I know of no other books that are ever like these. No other book I have ever read captured my imagination this way. It is all so well thought out and you may wonder if you aren't reading an account of something that actually happened! I think perhaps this novel, its sequal and the other story line told in K&EoR are just plain fantastic. WARNING though, you really shoud read K&EoR 1,2,3 before reading EQ&K 1,2. Read. Enjoy. Go to next book.

Incredible 1st book in series

If you enjoyed Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, get set to enter a world just as intriguing! Mr. Stanek has written a great book, a worthy beginning to an epic fantasy series. What makes this book so special is Stanek's ability to make us care about each and every character! The story is complex and fascinating, the author juggles the complex tale with spectacular skill, never allowing us to forget that what really matters is what we feel about the people involved. The political intrigue adds depth to already great plot lines. If you like to get so wrapped up in a book that you can't wait to get home to read more, this is the series you need to get into. Every time you think you've figured out what the next turn of fate will be, Stanek pulls the rug out from under and makes you say wow. This is some of the finest writing I've found in the last decade, but to really understand you have to try to put together the pieces of the parallel history offered in this book and the next one. Remember this is only the beginning, things get deeper, better from here. Final note if you haven't read The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches books (1,2,3) you may want to start there first.

Wow! Simply amazing...

Magnificent without doubt! Epic in the vein of Tolkien yet better on so many different levels. The heroic struggle operates as a backdrop to a much deeper quest of the human spirit and understanding of the human soul.   Robert Stanek is by far the best author I have ever read. His words are so well expressed that it makes you feel like you are actually there. This book is so vivid it actually got me so involved with the characters. Its full of struggles and triumphs, and this is only the second one. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good novel, it is one of the best.

Great intro to Ruin Mist Tales

I had never read a Robert Stanek series before this - in fact, the only fantasy series I read regularly before this was the Haydon's Rhapsody trilogy. With this book, the beautiful cover caught my eye and made me lift it from the shelf. The book description made me buy it, and the wondrous story made me love it! Immediately, afterwards, I began devouring the rest of this great series - eagerly awaiting Kingdom Alliance. For other readers who like me find it difficult to leap into a new fantasy world, this book is great at bringing you into this great new world. Trust me, it's a great series to leap into, with so many great possibilities for the future.
