Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in New York City, but on the majority he grew up in Oakland, California. His mother was a member of the Black Panther's and was no stranger to the law. She called Tupac the "Black Prince". Often speaking of how he would become a powerful black leader. She brought him up to know the value of education.

His first major breakthrough on the music scene was with a band called "Digital Underground", of which he was a member, in 1991. However, in the same year he made an individual step forward and released his first album - "2pacalypse Now". For which he received lots of recognition. But this album was also the beginning of his image as a notorious "gangsta rap" figure with his powerful and often crude lyrics of his songs. Often referring to gang wars, whacking cops and sexual violence. Even one of his album titles "Thug Life" supported this image he was creating for himself.

His movie career also began in this year with the titles "Juice" (1992) and in he co-starred with Janet Jackson in "Poetic Justice" (1993). However hard times were to come with the law. In 1994 Tupac received a 15-day jail sentence for assault and battery and in the year of 1995 he was convicted of sexual assault of a female fan. After serving eight months in prison Tupac was released pending an appeal. It was in jail that he wrote the song "Dear Mama".

However in 1996 September the 7th Tupac made a trip to Las Vegas to watch the Mike Tyson vs. Seldon fight. He then left the match - without the bullet proof vest on he used to wear when in public places - in his black BMW with Death Row Records executive "Suge Knight". A white car pulled up beside Tupac's car, which Knight was driving and 5 shots were fire. Tupac was shot twice in the chest, once in the right thigh and in the shoulder. One bullet missed and scuffed Knight in the head - or so they say.

Knight reacted quickly by fleeing the situation and was pulled over by the cops a short while after before Tupac was rushed to hospital. Emergency surgery began on Tupac to remove his right lung, which must have been struck twice. After 6 days in a medical coma Tupac Amaru Shakur was announced dead on September "Friday the 13th".
