Scout Uniform Guide

The Tiger Cub uniform is simplicity itself.

Hat
- Orange mesh hat with white front panel and Tiger Cubs BSA emblem.

Shirt - Orange T-shirt with white collar and Tiger Cubs BSA emblem on left breast.

Belt (optional) - Blue Cub Scout web belt with brass Tiger Cubs BSA or Cub Scout buckle.

Instant Recognition Kit - Paw-shaped leather totem with vinyl cord to hold recognition beads.

Right Sleeve
U.S. Flag - Worn directly below the shoulder seam.

Den Numeral Strip - Worn directly below the U.S. flag.  NOTE: Webelos dens may elect to have a "name" and wear an emblem, which is worn instead of the numeral strip. See below.

Den Emblem - May be chosen for wear by Webelos dens instead of the den numeral strip. If elected, the emblem is worn directly below, and touching, the U.S. flag. 

Webelos Colors - Yellow, red and green streamers attached to a blue enamalled bar. Pack optional for wear by Webelos Scouts. Worn centered on the sleeve immediately below, and touching, the U.S. flag. If the colors are worn, Webelos activity badges are worn on the streamers.

Quality Unit Award - Authorized for wear in packs meeting the annual criteria. Worn centered on the sleeve, 4 inches below the shoulder seam. Only the most recent award may be worn.

Left Sleeve
Council Emblem - Multicolor emblem denoting the local council. Worn directly below the shoulder seam.

Veteran Unit Bar - Embroidered patch signifying the packs which have been chartered for 25, 50, 55, or 60 years. Worn directly below the council emblem. (Where applicable.)

Pack Numeral - Embroidered numbers representing the Pack. Worn centered directly below the council emblem, or the Veteran Unit Bar (and touching) if authorized.

Shoulder Cord - Gold shoulder cords with tabs are authorized for wear over the left shoulder for Denners (double-strand) and Assistant Denners (single-strand) only during term of office. The tabs may be worn without the cord to indicate previous service. NOTE: Webelos Scouts wearing the khaki shirt wear the cords without the tab under the shirt epaulet.



Right Pocket
Summertime Award - A gold sunburst pin awarded to scouts in packs earning the National Summertime Award AND who participated in three summer pack activities. Worn centered on the pocket flap.

Progress Toward Ranks - Actually named the "Immediate Recognition Patch", this plastic emblem is used reward Wolf and Bear Scouts "on the spot" for completing achievements. Yellow (Wolf) and Red (Bear) beads are awarded for each three achievements completed until four beads have been earned. Boys may continue to wear the emblem after rank badges are earned until they become Webelos Scouts. Worn on the pocket button (underneath the flap).

Compass Point Emblem (Not Shown) - Presented to Webelos Scouts who earn four activity badges in addition to the three required to earn the Webelos badge (for a total of 7). A Compass Point pin is awarded for each four additional activity badges completed and are placed in the "E", "S" and "W" positions of the compass. Worn on the pocket button (underneath the flap).

Temporary Insignia (Not Shown) - Any insignia authorized by the local council for a particular purpose such as ........ Only one temporary patch may be worn in addition to the Immediate Recognition Patch or Compass Point Emblem. Worn centered on the pocket.

Tiger Cubs BSA Strip - Presented to all boys who complete the Tiger Cubs program. Worn centered below, and touching, the shirt pocket.

Recruiter Strip - Presented to boys who recruit another boy into the Scouting program. Worn by Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts centered below, and touching, the pocket - OR - immediately below the Tiger Cubs strip if awarded.


Left Pocket
World Crest - An optional badge worn to show membership in the World Brotherhood of Scouting. Worn centered above the pocket midway between the pocket and the shoulder seam.

Religious Emblem (Not Shown) - Presented to boys who have earned the religious emblem of their faith, this award has two forms: Square Knot and Medal. The square knot is worn centered above, and touching, the pocket. The medal is worn centered above, but not touching, the pocket. NOTE: The medal is only worn on formal occasions such as uniform inspections, the Blue & Gold Banquets, etc.

Service Stars - These gold metallic numbered stars with colored backgrounds are worn to indicate years of service. Tiger Cubs service is denoted by the orange background, Cub and Webelos Scout service is denoted by a yellow background. The stars are worn centered 3/8" above the pocket, or religious square knot if earned.

Attendance Pin & Bar (Not Shown) - A gold pin that may be worn by scouts who been recognized for good attendance (requirements determined by the Pack Committee). Year bars are available to attach to the first year bar and pin. Worn centered above, but not touching, the pocket.

Activity Medals (Not Shown) - These medals, earned by Scouts in derbiies or other contests are worn centered above, but not touching, the pocket. As with the religious emblems, these are to be worn only on special occasions. Only one activity medal may be worn in addition to the religious medal and attendence pin.

Arrow of Light Award - The highest award in Cub Scouting and the only Cub Scout badge which many be worn on the Boy Scout uniform! Worn on the pocket flap centered over the button.

Badges of Rank - The Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos badges are worn as shown in the illustration to the left.

Arrow Points - Arrow points are awarded to Wolf and Bear Scouts for every ten electives completed. A Gold Arrow Point is awarded for the first 10 electives completed. A Silver Arrow Point is awarded for each additional 10 electives. The arrow points are worn as shown in the illustration.

Accouterments
Hat - Official Cub Scout baseball-style cap.   Wolf and Bear Scouts wear the navy cap with gold front panel and Cub Scout emblem.  Webelos scouts wear the navy cap with light blue front panel and Webelos emblem.

Neckerchief - Worn rolled or folded, leaving a small "triangle" approximately six inches from the tip to the top of the roll or fold. The neckerchief is worn only with the official uniform shirt and may be worn either over or under the collar with the Neckerchief Slide or knotted neatly.  The official neckerchiefs are as follows:

  • Wolf Scouts - Gold with navy blue trim.
  • Bear Scouts - Light blue with navy trim.
  • Webelos Scouts - Blue, green, red and gold plaid with Webelos emblem.

Neckerchief Slide - Official gold colored metal slide with Cub Scout or Webelos emblem (as appropriate). Homemade slides may also be worn.

Shoulder Loops - Webelos Scouts only!  Blue nylon "loops" worn on the epaulets of the khaki uniform shirt.

Belt - Official navy blue web belt and gold metal buckle with Cub Scout emblem.  Note:  Webelos Scouts have the option to wear the official Boy Scout olive web belt with gold metal Boy Scout buckle, however please note that the Cub Scout belt loops DO NOT fit on the Boy Scout belt.

Patch Vest - A red vest is available to display temporary patches and previously earned badges and insignia.

Miscellaneous
Activity Badges - Webelos Scouts only!  Okay, we all know they're really pins but the official title is "badges". Gold and colored-enamel pins earned by Webelos Scouts for completing the requirements in each of the 20 activity badge subjects. The badges may be worn on either the front panel of the Webelos hat or on the streamers of the Webelos Colors.  Specific details for earning each pin can be found in the Webelos Scouts Handbook or by following this link .

Sports & Academics Loops - Metal "loop" awarded to boys who complete the requirements in individual sports or academic activities.  Note: The belt loops are designed to fit on the Cub Scout belt only - they DO NOT fit on the Boy Scout belt!  Specific details for earning each loop can be found in the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program Guide or by following this link.

Sports & Academics Pins - Gold and colored-enamel pins awarded to boys who have to recognize academic and sports development over a 3-month period. The pins may be worn on either the Cub Scout hat or on the Academic/Sports Letter.  Specific details for earning each pin can be found in the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program Guide or by following this link.

Sports & Academics Letters - Blue letter "S" with gold border, or gold letter "A" with blue border.  Awarded to boys who have completed the requirements for both the belt loop and pin, AND involved an adult teammate in earning a Sports or Academic pin.   The letter is not authorized for wear on the uniform shirt, but may be worn on the patch vest.  Specific details for earning this award may be found in the Cub Scout Academics and Sports Program Guide or by following this link.

Pants/Shorts - Navy blue for Cub Scouts. Webelos Scouts may wear the olive cargo-style if the tan shirt uniform is worn.

Socks - Navy blue with gold top. Webelos Scouts may wear the olive with red top version if the tan shirt uniform is worn.

Class "B" Uniform - Generally composed of any scouting-related shirt worn with any regular pants or shorts.
