My Theory

Government
Some people are saying it is the work of state of the art government helicopters. While probably not the rotary type we’re all used to, they might have some sort of propulsion unit that allows them to pop down and assist people, namely motorists and be gone. Maybe they have some sort of gripping device to move cars as they need to.

Crop Circles
Some think the crop circle groups have gotten bored and come up with a new hoax. This sort of thing could probably be pretty easily done with a tractor to apply pressure and some version of a template. I tend to debunk this idea as there were no tracks anywhere near the prints that I saw and it doesn’t explain the broken tree limbs several feet above the tracks. There could be some impersonators that have come about, but I’m guessing those would be easy to spot.

Alien
There’s also the alien theory group that’s convinced we’re being invaded. Or they might also believe that they are corroborating with some local spies and this is their earth transport. Most of these fears come from the crude drawings people give out.

Frankenstein
Another rumor is almost Frankenstein-like. Some are saying there’s a scientist that built this giant beast in his lab. A robot. Well we’ve all seen the robots in factories and know they can move swiftly and the intelligence in them is astounding, so this seems like a possibility, but the preemptive nature of the assistance leads me to believe it was something much more.

Corroborations of the Frankenstein theory are coming in. A new book - Men of Metal, by Rowland Samuel - reports an engineer named Dr. Colin Mayhew has assembled MINI Cooper parts to build a robot that thinks and acts on its own. The book is coming out of Casson Publishing (http://www.cassonpublishing.co.uk/), which has been the publisher of a number of "unsolved phenomena" publications in the past.

A former research assistant of Mayhew's at the Oxford MINI plant has sent in the following pictures, showing the Doctor examining the engine of what appears to be a MINI Cooper. This legitimizes his knowledge of the vehicle, and opens the door to the possibility that he may have built a robot out of its parts.

Also, a picture showing Mayhew leaving his workplace on Darby Street was emailed in. This picture was taken by a loyal reader of this website just last week, and though it doesn't prove anything, it's good to know we're keeping tabs on Mayhew and his work. While I don't think we should be overly-meddlesome in Dr. Mayhew's life, I think it would be a good idea to keep an eye out if you happen to be in the area. I'd be glad to post any legitimate pictures of him, or more hopefully, his work.

Military
Perhaps it’s military. We all know the UK does not really want to be a part of the new EU. They have no real power now that Germany and France are taking the lead and they still won’t accept the Euro. It could be the result of a joint US / UK project to develop a fighting exoskeleton or military-use robot. The US military always seems to be several steps beyond anything we ever hear about. And to actually create something that requires this large a footprint and likely has this large a footstep (if that’s what we’re finding) would have to be military funded. If you need convincing, look at any of the mech based anime cartoons that are out there. The idea has been around forever and only the funding that American military budgets get could actually fund this level of development. There’s no hard evidence to back this up other than the possible scale of the project. I’m still digging for something more.
